About The Position

Audio System Experts apply their knowledge of audiology, sound quality, embedded systems, digital signal processing, to design, test, and maintain Audio at system level hearing aid and accessory products. As the Audio System Engineering Intern, you will operate in the scope of New Product Development Projects and Advanced Development Projects. You will engage regularly with other product development teams to deliver high quality and on-time hearing products to the market. The Audio System engineer intern will be responsible for assisting Audio system engineers in tasks related to the development and integration of system level audio and fitting features for hearing aid and accessory products. The engineer may participate in the design, implementation, integration and verification of audio and fitting features or related tools. This position will also be responsible for assisting in testing and documentation of fitting elements, sound quality and benchmarking. Requirements

Pursuing a Maters’s or Phd degree in an Engineering, Audiology or related field
Domain knowledge of one or more of the following is required, Digital Signal Processing
Audiology
Verifit and audiological tools
Sound quality test methodologies and tools
Knowledge of Kemar based sound quality assessments and analysis
Knowledge of scripting languages such as MATLAB or Python required
Knowledge of hearing aids and accessories
Strong skills in Kemar and Verifit testing and evaluation
Proficiency in troubleshooting.
Attention to details.
Great oral and written communication skills.
Must be detail-oriented, accurate and organized.

Responsibilities

Understand and participate in establishing sound quality evaluation
Have an ability to understand system level audio impacting audio system design.
Collaborate with others in the organization to define and improve Kemar/Verifit based evaluation for the hearing aid.
Ensure that the Audio at system level is aligned with the requirements through reviewing the design with more senior audio experts.
Document the sound quality and benchmarking for feature compliance of the competitor products and software.
Design and implement different audio test evaluation techniques.
Document and review designs. Documentation shall provide value and enhance the understanding of the Audio and Fitting features.
Use knowledge of programming languages (such as python or MATLAB) to implement test scripts for audio evaluation.
Create and continually update the status of assigned tasks using the established issue and project tracking software.
Identify Root causes and resolve audio/fitting issues in a timely manner.
Communicating the root cause of the technical issues, possible solutions and the impact of the solution to Audio system management and project team as needed.
Verify the functionality of the integration of Audio features under senior experts’ guidance.
Support the Audio System Team in devising test plans and executing tests to ensure high sound quality at the system level.
Review and provide constructive feedback on the test plans of Audio system evaluation.
Work with Audio System Engineers and others from the R&D organization to understand and root cause issues.
Effectively participate in project activities.
Understand and follow organizational processes such as the advanced development process and the product development process.
During assigned projects work with Audio system project sponsor/manager to create project plans and work estimates which are used to set project milestones.
Proactively take ownership of project assignments and follow project management process as defined for the project.
Throughout projects, proactively communicate changes to level of effort estimates and the impact to the schedule.
Effectively communicate project activities during sprint reviews, stand-ups, and one on one meetings.
Support Starkey Employee Corporate and/or Department Guidelines.
Check and verify quality.
Support corporate health and safety objectives.
React to change productively and handle other essential duties as assigned.
