Our current hybrid approach requires staff to work onsite a minimum of two days each week, every Tuesday and Wednesday, Hybrid staff are also welcome to come in additional days each week or may be asked to come in on other days by their manager. DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW NOVA is the most popular primetime science series on American television, demystifying the scientific and technological concepts that shape and define our lives, our planet, and our universe. The PBS series is also one of the most widely distributed science programs around the world, and is a multimedia, multiplatform brand reaching more than 55 million Americans every year on TV and online. The Digital Media Team expands on the brand’s 50-year legacy, bringing NOVA’s important and inspiring stories of human ingenuity, exploration, and the quest for knowledge to new platforms and audiences. NOVA is committed to making the scientific enterprise accessible to all, and the Digital Media Team plays an important role in ensuring that NOVA’s content reaches and engages everyone with an interest in the awe and wonder of science. JOB OVERVIEW The Audience Development Specialist will support audience development and social media efforts for NOVA. Under the direction of the Manager, Audience Development, the Audience Development Specialist will support copywriting for all digital platforms, weekly newsletter production, image research for show art and thumbnails, social media scheduling, and other related needs to support NOVA’s audience growth and engagement efforts.

Requirements

  • Ability to meet time-sensitive deadlines and effectively keep track of many tasks at once
  • Solid writing and editing skills, with the ability to quickly distill and articulate the most engaging elements of a story, tailored to relevant audiences
  • Strong familiarity with social media platforms
  • Creative approach to problem solving; entrepreneurial and collaborative attitude
  • 1-3 years of relevant experience, preferably with interest/experience in science programming.
  • Experience with a newsletter scheduling tool preferred (eg. Mailchimp)
  • Experience creating social content and writing social copy for media companies preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required.

Nice To Haves

  • Basic familiarity with Adobe Photoshop preferred

Responsibilities

  • Write copy for social media and newsletter
  • Schedule weekly newsletter, as well as bonus newsletters
  • Schedule social media posts, as needed
  • Write program descriptions for NOVA episodes, digital series, and other digital content, as needed
  • Conduct image research for title treatments and thumbnails related to new NOVA episodes, podcasts, and digital video
  • Create and A/B test thumbnails for YouTube
  • Create image assets for content promotion in all necessary formats, for distribution to PBS, GBH, and other stakeholders
  • Promote NOVA’s digital content with all stakeholders across the network (station relations, PBS, etc); deliver all digital assets across the system, as needed
  • Support management of paid campaigns on social platforms and social monetization efforts
