About The Position

Space Center Houston is a space exploration learning destination dedicated to revealing how science and humanity power space exploration through meaningful, moving experiences about people and the courage, innovation, and teamwork they use to expand the boundaries of what's possible. We inspire guests of all ages to connect with the significance of space exploration as incredible feats of human spaceflight continue to bring joy and wonder to the world. Owned and operated by the nonprofit Manned Space Flight Education Foundation, we are the Official Visitor Center of NASA Johnson Space Center and a Smithsonian affiliate. We are currently seeking Summer temporary Attractions Host. All Guest Operations Crew Members are responsible for providing inspiring educational experiences and exceptional guest service to guests visiting Space Center Houston. Summer temporary crew members generally begin working in May or June (depending on availability) and work through mid-August.

Requirements

  • A minimum of one year of work experience in customer service or a related field preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate in a courteous and professional manner.
  • A genuine desire and willingness to provide an excellent guest experience and proactively interact and engage with guests.
  • Ability to memorize and effectively communicate information.
  • Must have the skills to communicate clearly and comfortably to both small and large groups.
  • Ability to exercise good judgement and sound reasoning in all interactions and decisions.
  • Willingness to work in a variety of work locations within the building including inside and/or outside in various weather conditions.
  • Ability to move through groups and crowded spaces and/or positioned in one location for long periods of time; climb and descend stairs; and work at heights of up to 60 feet above the ground.
  • Ability to follow all safety and evacuation procedures and assist guests in urgent situations.
  • Willingness and availability to work a flexible work schedule which may include various day and evening schedules and weekdays, weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

  • Proactively communicate and engage with Space Center Houston guests to enhance the guest experience.
  • Provide welcoming greetings, directions, and assist with day planning; and information about exhibits and artifacts.
  • Communicate information about Space Center Houston operations including tour and show times, hours of operation, programs and special events.
  • Respond promptly to guest questions or needs including communicating concerns or challenging situations to the appropriate supervisory level.
  • Responsible for proper guest flow in loading and unloading theaters and as guests move through each exhibit space.
  • Accurately document guest counts in each area as assigned.
  • Communicate and engage with guests in a friendly, courteous and professional manner.
  • Work in assigned zones that will rotate throughout the day.
  • Place safety first when carrying out position duties and understand and execute all emergency and evacuation procedures.
  • Serve all guests by informing them about membership benefits and additional experiences including tours, dining, souvenir photos, the gift shop, and parking assistance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Benefits

  • Hourly pay rate of $17.00
