About The Position

This position provides services to all business units, entities, affiliates, subsidiaries and support functions of The Babcock & Wilcox Company (“B&W”). The primary emphasis of this role includes commercial and contract review and negotiation, as well as overall proposal and contract support services, both domestic and international. Receives guidance and oversight from Managing Attorney or designee. Provide legal advice for the company’s business units, providing practical, commercial advice on day-to-day matters and advising business leadership on multifaceted issues, including commercial matters, dispute resolution and regulatory compliance Provide overall legal advice relating to contracts (including negotiating and guidance on corporate policy matters), supplier negotiations, customer negotiations, strategies, supplier and customer disputes and contract risk mitigation. Draft and negotiate commercial contracts with customers, suppliers and service providers. Identify and advise on legal and business risk associated with business opportunities, including compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Draft and negotiate confidentiality agreements. Support litigation and compliance matters. Provide training to purchasing, sales, proposal and project management teams on a variety of legal topics. Assist with environmental, health and safety matters. Support corporate governance activities. Other duties as may be assigned.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school required.
  • Qualified candidates will be licensed to practice law in Ohio or will be licensed in another state and will qualify for corporate counsel registration in Ohio within twelve months.
  • 3-5 years’ experience in a law firm or in-house legal department with experience reviewing, revising and negotiating contracts. Litigation or litigation management experience is beneficial but not required.
  • Demonstrates analytical abilities, including problem solving and decision making.
  • Demonstrate maturity to exercise independent judgment on projects and assignments.
  • Strong computer skills, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and EHS data management software
  • Strong data analysis skills; proven ability to trend large amounts of data
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to work independently, self-starter, and motivator
  • Process minded, systems thinker

Nice To Haves

  • Litigation or litigation management experience is beneficial but not required.
