Join Our Team as an Attorney for the Kansas Child Support Program! Are you a dedicated legal professional passionate about making a meaningful impact on the lives of families and children? The Kansas Child Support Program is seeking an experienced and motivated Attorney to provide vital legal expertise, strategic guidance, and advocacy to ensure the effective administration of child support services across the state. In this role, you'll collaborate with state agencies, legal teams, and stakeholders to navigate complex legal issues, shape policy, and drive initiatives that promote the well-being of Kansas children and families. Your legal insight will play a pivotal role in interpreting regulations, advising on case strategies, and contributing to the development of effective child support practices. *This position is on-site during the training period - will move to remote with minimal travel after training*

  • Prepare, review, and sign legal filings and court documents.
  • Attend and represent the client in assigned judicial hearings.
  • Communicate and advise private counsel on cases.
  • Communicate with project staff regarding legal questions, opinions, and interpretations.
  • Act as an advisor on legal issues involving compliance.
  • Coordinate with outside counsel for litigation and legal matters.
  • Interpret applicable regulations and policies associated with case to determine recommendation.
  • Ensure solutions are consistent with organizational objectives.
  • Responsible for managing child support cases, participating in hearings and enforcing orders through administrative and court processes.
  • Occasional research.
  • Collaborating with attorneys and self-represented parties.
  • Handling administrative and court appeals.
  • Providing daily guidance on legal procedures to case workers and parents.
  • Interactions with court clerks, private counsel & pro se parties.
  • Following up on dockets with court clerks and following up with judges before and/or after hearings.
  • Engage in regular meetings with legal staff to ensure consistent and effective case handling.
  • Giving direction to staff to prepare matters for legal action.
  • Bachelor's degree in related field.
  • 3-5 years of relevant professional experience required.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience considered in lieu of degree.
  • Juris Doctorate (JD) degree required.
  • Active Kansas State BAR license required.
  • Experience with child support cases or family law preferred.
  • Organizational Skills.
  • Ability to follow through on all communications.
  • Clear Communication Skills.
  • Must be willing and able to travel to Kansas City, KS or Wichita, KS as needed.
