The Office of General Counsel is recruiting for an Agency Attorney Interne to function as Attorney Interne within the Litigation and Program Counseling Unit of the Office of Legal Affairs. The Litigation and Program Counseling Unit (LPCU) represents the Agency in litigation and provides legal counsel to the majority of program areas within the New York City Department of Social Services/Human Resources Administration, including those that administer cash assistance, emergency assistance, and Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits, Medicaid, home care services, services for survivors of domestic violence and clients living with HIV/AIDS, and supportive and career services. LPCU represents the Agency in Article 78 and other proceedings in Supreme and Civil Court, provides litigation support to the New York City Law Department on class action and other major litigation and appeals, and provides legal counsel to program areas on the impact of complex laws and regulations on the administration of benefits and services to low-income New Yorkers and vulnerable populations.
