Auto-Owners Insurance, a top-rated insurance carrier, is seeking an experienced and motivated Contract and Data Privacy Attorney to join our team. Requirements

  • Law degree from accredited J.D. program and license to practice law.
  • Familiarity with, and an understanding of, privacy and cybersecurity laws governing the use of personal information, data breach issues, intellectual property infringement indemnification, data protection provisions and terminology, HIPAA, cloud- based server issues, and general liability principles.
  • Strong technology skills and the ability to use contract life cycle management systems to streamline contract review processes and manage tasks efficiently.
  • Strong analytical skills, efficient, organized, and ability to see the big picture.
  • Strong communication skills are necessary to effectively interact with the business units to assist them with vendor contracts.
  • Strong writing and drafting skills.
  • Ability to think on one’s feet and excellent oral argument skills are necessary to negotiate key contract provisions with vendors and business partners.
  • The ability to work in the U.S. without current or future sponsorship is a requirement.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience drafting business contracts is preferred.
  • Vendor management experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Draft, review, and revise proposed vendor contract language and provisions to ensure the company is receiving appropriate legal, cybersecurity, data privacy, and confidentiality protections.
  • Work directly with business unit contract owners to ensure vendor proposed delivery/application processes for products, services, or software conform to best practices in the industry.
  • Assist with cybersecurity incident response.
  • Assist with cybersecurity and data privacy policy development and compliance issues.
  • Assist with responses to consumer privacy requests and inquiries.
  • Preparing training materials and giving presentations.
  • Provide legal advice and counsel to business units within the company regarding other general corporate matters.
