About The Position

This position is in the Office of the Attorney General within the Criminal Appeals Unit in Tallahassee, Florida. The Office represents the State of Florida in state and federal civil and criminal courts, from trial courts to the Supreme Court of the United States.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Laws or Juris Doctor from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association.
  • Membership of the Florida Bar.
  • Proof of the Bachelor of Laws or Juris Doctor and approval to sit for the Florida bar exam must be provided prior to the date of employment.
  • Admission to the bar within 12 months of the date of employment is required.

Responsibilities

  • Supervision of the timely filing of necessary pleadings and documents comprising the record on appeal.
  • Review of the assignments of error.
  • Performance of the research necessary to prepare and file briefs setting forth the contentions and positions of the State of Florida with respect to the issues involved.
  • Attendance at oral arguments.
  • Handles extraordinary writs in the state and federal courts where appropriate.
  • Handles any other special assignments or duties assigned by the Bureau Chief, including civil litigation, special projects, post-conviction litigation.
