About The Position

The Idaho Department of Lands (IDL) is seeking a full-time Attorney to assist with legal analysis, advice, recommendations, transactions, administrative proceedings, and litigation related to land management and natural resources. This position will work closely with the General Counsel and other department staff to manage Idaho's endowment assets and provide assistance to citizens regarding natural resource use and protection. The role involves a focus on real estate transactions and regulatory matters, requiring strong analytical and communication skills.

Requirements

• Current member in good standing of the Idaho State Bar.
• Knowledge of trial procedure and rules of evidence.
• Good knowledge of principles and practices of common law.
• Considerable knowledge of Idaho real estate and property law (desired).
• Strong analytical and research skills (desired).
• Effective communication skills to explain complex legal concepts.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in real estate law and transactions.
• Familiarity with administrative law and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Assist the General Counsel and department staff with legal analysis and advice.
• Advise on proposed real estate transactions and assess potential risks.
• Draft and review legal documents including purchase agreements and leases.
• Conduct title examinations and due diligence on properties.
• Provide authoritative legal advice on administrative issues.
• Represent the Department in administrative proceedings and litigation.
• Draft contracts, legislation, and Department rules.
• Conduct extensive legal research and prepare legal arguments.
• Negotiate with state and federal agencies and private organizations.
