About The Position

The Dougherty Circuit Public Defender Office is seeking to fill an Assistant Public Defender position. Primary responsibilities include representing indigent clients in all phases of criminal proceedings. Applicants must meet the qualifications and have the necessary skills to perform the job duties and responsibilities for the position, including but not limited to, preparation and presentation of cases for trial and entering of pleas. The chosen applicant will be a current member in good standing with the Georgia Bar.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctorate from an accredited college or university.
  • License to practice law in the State of Georgia or eligibility to sit for the next Georgia Bar examination.
  • Passage of the Georgia Bar exam and licensure to practice law in the State of Georgia within one (1) year of hiring.
  • One (1) year of relevant legal experience or one (1) year of experience required at the lower-level Attorney 1 (LEP020).

Responsibilities

  • Represent indigent clients in all phases of criminal proceedings.
  • Prepare and present cases for trial.
  • Enter pleas on behalf of clients.
  • Provide competent and zealous representation and advocacy to indigent clients.
  • Perform professional legal work and assist in cases of routine complexity.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
