About The Position

Under the administrative direction of the Chair of the Department of Pathology, assumes professional, scientific, consultative, administrative and educational responsibilities as needed in sections for the Division of Anatomic Pathology.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy Medicine (DO) from an accredited medical college or university or foreign equivalent.
  • Valid License as a Physician in the State of Illinois.
  • Completed residency training in Anatomic Pathology or Anatomic and Clinical Pathology.
  • Board Certification or Board Eligibility in Anatomic Pathology, or Anatomic and Clinical Pathology, and must be Board Certified within one (1) year of starting employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Surgical Pathology Fellowship with subspecialty training, expertise or interest, especially in breast pathology, dermatopathology, soft tissue and bone pathology, informatics, histology laboratory expertise.

Responsibilities

  • Participate actively in the delivery of quality patient care and service by each section in the Division of Anatomic Pathology.
  • Perform postmortem examinations on all assigned cases in the Section of Autopsy Pathology.
  • Teach and supervise residents, fellows, and other assigned health professionals in dissection, gross description, documentation, selection of sections, microscopic examination, and clinical pathologic correlation of autopsy findings.
  • Issue timely provisional and final anatomic diagnoses of assigned cases.
  • Perform gross examinations, dissections, documentation, photography, and sampling for microscopic examination in all assigned cases in the Section of Surgical Pathology.
  • Provide intraoperative consultations with or without frozen sections on all assigned cases.
  • Complete and report all assigned surgical pathology cases in a timely manner.
  • Work independently while supervising pathologist extenders, residents, fellows, and other health professionals.
  • Complete all Histology and Surgical Pathology forms required for Quality Control/Quality Assurance activities.
  • Participate in service coverage rotation schedule in Surgical Pathology, including night, weekend, and holiday calls.
  • Supervise and teach pathologist extenders, residents, and fellows in Surgical Pathology.
  • Maintain educational programs and postgraduate medical education involving Autopsy and Surgical Pathology.
  • Support and participate in scholarly activities and clinical research in the Division of Anatomic Pathology.
  • Perform assigned duties according to nationally accepted standards in Anatomic Pathology.
