Position Summary: The Atomizer is responsible for operating and maintaining metal atomizing systems used to convert molten metal into fine powder for use in additive manufacturing, powder metallurgy, and related applications. This position ensures safe operation, consistent product quality, and efficient production within a high-temperature, industrial environment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 1+ year of experience in metal processing, foundry operations, or industrial manufacturing preferred.
  • Familiarity with furnaces, crucibles, and high-temperature metal handling a plus.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and basic understanding of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Ability to read gauges, follow process instructions, and document production data accurately.
  • Commitment to safety, teamwork, and continuous learning.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physically demanding tasks in a hot, noisy environment.
  • Willingness to work rotating shifts, weekends, and overtime as required.
  • Ability to follow detailed work instructions and process documentation.
  • Strong attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and contribute to continuous improvement efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Operate metal atomization equipment according to standard operating procedures and production schedules.
  • Prepare and set up equipment and materials, cast, and work with inventory to ensure correct alloy composition and cleanliness of inputs to avoid cross-contamination
  • Control process parameters such as melt temperature, gas flow, atomizing pressure, and collection rates to achieve target powder characteristics.
  • Monitor and record process data as needed and raise any quality concerns to management and engineering
  • Perform sieving, screening, and classification of powder to meet customer specifications.
  • Conduct visual inspections and basic quality control checks (particle size, flow, density, etc.).
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment at all times.
  • Prepare and send samples to the lab for analysis
  • Accurately record production activity information in required logs or systems.
  • Assist in routine maintenance, cleaning, and troubleshooting of atomizing systems and areas.
  • Follow all safety, environmental, and quality procedures, including PPE, lockout/tagout, and confined space requirements.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts in safety, efficiency, and product quality and participate in problem solving and continuous improvement projects.
