We are looking for an Atomic Physicist for Ion Trapping & Integrated Photonics. Are you passionate about pushing the boundaries of quantum science? Quantinuum is seeking talented individuals to join us in building, running, and maintaining a cutting-edge trapped ion testbed to support the next generation of ion traps with integrated photonics.

  • Develop and operate an advanced trapped ion testbed aimed at revolutionizing ion traps integrated with photonic technology.
  • Create state-of-the-art atomic physics tools and setups to explore the effects of novel trap materials and integrated photonic devices on trapped ions.
  • Work alongside a diverse and talented team, including atomic physicists, engineers, and fabrication experts, to validate and enhance ground-breaking integrated photonic and trapped-ion technologies.
  • Plan, design, and build new equipment to target the high-sensitivity requirements for an ion-trap based quantum computer.
  • Communicate results both internally and externally through documentation, publications, and presentations.
  • Work in a research lab environment to collect and analyze data on system and device performance.
  • Bachelors in physics or engineering
  • Minimum 5 years experience (degree inclusive) with trapped ions, neutral atom cooling & trapping, and/or atom-based quantum computers
  • Minimum 5 years experience (degree inclusive) involving one or more of the following areas: experimental atomic physics, experimental optics & lasers, precision experimental control systems
  • Minimum 2 years experience (degree inclusive) building complex atomic physics systems
  • Due to national security requirements imposed by the U.S. Government, candidates for this position must not be a People's Republic of China national or Russian national unless the candidate is also a U.S. citizen.
  • Due to Contractual requirements, must be a U.S. person (defined as, U.S. citizen permanent resident or green card holder, workers granted asylum or refugee status)
  • Masters or PhD in physics or engineering
  • Experience with design or operation of a device for quantum information processing
  • Experience with laser cooling and trapping of ions or neutral atoms
  • Experience with design and implementation of complex optical apparatuses
  • Experience performing simulation and modeling to inform experiments and/or data analysis
  • Experience programming experimental control systems for data collection, signal processing, and data analysis
  • Experience with software version control and data archiving
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including documentation for colleagues and collaborators
