Idaho Power Inc. (IDACORP INC.)Boise, ID

About The Position

Idaho Power Company (IPC) - located in vibrant Boise, Idaho - is looking for an Atmospheric Scientist or Senior to join our Meteorology and Cloud Seeding team. It's an exciting time to work for Idaho Power. Our work plays a critical role in communities we serve across Idaho and Oregon, and we're working hard to safely provide our customers with the reliable, affordable, clean energy they depend on. While this position is based at Idaho Power's downtown Boise location, we offer both flexible schedules and the opportunity to work up to 40% remote. Relocation assistance may also be provided to the successful candidate. What does an Atmospheric Scientist do for us? Idaho Power's largest generation resource is hydropower, which is also its lowest cost energy source. Idaho Power's energy mix and customer load are both heavily influenced by weather, which makes understanding weather a critical part of reliably and cost effectively serving our customers. Approximately half of Idaho Power's energy is driven by weather, compared to a national average of about 20%. To augment water supply for its fleet of hydropower generation, Idaho Power's Atmospheric Sciences group operates a large and robust cloud seeding program. With increasing concerns of risk associated with wildfire, Idaho Power has a Wildfire Mitigation Plan (WMP), and the Atmospheric Sciences group provides fire weather forecasting and situational awareness to support the plan.
