About The Position

The Department of Transportation is seeking motivate and driven Interns to join
our dynamic team. This internship provides an excellent opportunity for
individuals interested in gaining hands-on experience across multiple facets of
transportation initiatives. Our interns will be exposed to various areas such as
Strategy and Planning, Capital Delivery, Right-of-Way Maintenance,
Communications, Engineering, and Administration.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program in Transportation, Civil Engineering or another Engineering discipline, Urban Planning, or a related field or a High School student currently enrolled in school.
• Strong desire to learn and a proactive attitude toward gaining new skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team setting and adapt to new challenges
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Work, PowerPoint).

Nice To Haves

• Some knowledge (not required) of traffic modeling software, or other relevant tools.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the planning and execution of transportation-related projects, including those focused on mobility and capital projects
• Support Engineering team in analyzing transportation systems, street maintenance efforts, and project development
• Aid in communication materials and presentations related to transportation initiatives.
• Collaborate with various departments, helping with administrative tasks and ensuring the smooth flow of information.
• Participate in meetings and site visits, gaining insight into the full cycle of transportation initiatives from design to implementation and maintenance.
• Attend and contribute to community meetings and events to understand public concerns and communicate transportation updates
• Present findings and updates in meetings, developing public speaking skills through day-to-day tasks and assignments
• Work closely with project managers and senior staff to support daily activities and gain valuable exposure to real-world applications of transportation concepts.
