About The Position

Maintains athletic fields, renovation of all athletic fields and grounds. Establishes and implements grounds/landscape development and maintenance goals Works under the general supervision of the Parks Superintendent.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED equivalent
One (1) to three (3) months related experience operating light Equipment or equivalent combination of experience and education.
Valid state driver's license or ability to obtain one.
A state approved herbicide applicators license within one year of hire.
Must attend the required education and training to maintain required certifications .
After-hours work is sometimes required as assigned and largely related to special events.
Be a self-starter and show initiative
Knowledge of basic landscaping techniques
Ability to identify turf pests and institute turfgrass maintenance and treatment
Knowledge of sports field irrigation systems
Knowledge of pest management guidelines and standards
Ability to follow routine instructions
Ability to work without supervision and complete tasks in a timely manner
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos
Ability to write simple correspondence
Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs
Ability to maintain effective working relationships with coworkers and other departments
Ability to utilize current Parks and Recreation equipment, power tools, and other vehicles and/or items, effectively and safely, as needed to maintain the appearance of the City Parks and Recreation areas.

Responsibilities

Maintains athletics fields by mowing, trimming, and edging turf areas, prepping athletic fields for use, installing and maintaining irrigation systems, providing landscaping as assigned, picking up trash, applying herbicides and pesticides, and dragging and marking fields.
Restores fields damaged by weather, use, or other conditions to a level commensurate with that expected of athletic programs.
Manages and reviews irrigation systems performance and initiates change when necessary
Performs other essential duties as required to achieve successful operations of the department.
Ability to effectively communicate and work with citizens who may have complaints on services provided.
Must be able to follow directions.
Willing to work on-call as needed and on a 24-hour basis.
Regular and timely attendance is an essential job function.
Serves as a member of various employee committees, as assigned.
Other Duties as assigned.
