Requirements

  • Graduate of a Commission for Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE) Accredited Athletic Training Education Program.
  • AT - Certified Athletic Trainer - State Licensure - Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation_PSV through the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation
  • ATC - Athletic Trainer, Certified (BOC) - Board of Certification for the Athletic Trainer _PSV
  • BLS - Basic Life Support or Instructor (AHA) - American Heart Association
  • Demonstrates the skills and competencies necessary to safely perform the assigned job, determined through on-going skills, competency assessments, and performance evaluations
  • Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing the English language necessary to perform the essential functions of this job, especially with regard to activities impacting patient or employee safety or security
  • Ability to effectively communicate with patients, physicians, family members and co-workers in a manner consistent with a customer service focus and application of positive language principles
  • Ability to satisfactorily complete the Residency Program and demonstrate competencies within the Program planned curriculum and within the prescribed Program timelines to remain a participant

Responsibilities

  • Promotes a positive work environment and contributes to a dynamic, team focused work unit that actively helps one other to achieve optimal department results.
  • Collaborates with all members of the health care team by actively communicating and reporting pertinent information and data in a comprehensive manner to facilitate efficient and effective accomplishment of patient care. The faculty mentor will take the lead role while treating patients collaboratively, during the assigned hours of mentoring, and discuss clinical reasoning and feedback after patient treatments are concluded.
  • Provides oversight to support personnel of patient care duties, to ensure properly performed.
  • Effectively communicates with the patient, family, physician, and coach regarding the patient’s ability to return to practice and competition.
  • Practices prevention, recognition, assessment, management, treatment, and reconditioning of injuries in accordance with athletic training practice act while collaborating with providers.
  • Documents patient assessments and treatment notes accurately. Successfully executes, through demonstration, live patient technique examinations, case report write ups and presentation(s).
  • Works in an integrated manner with the health team in the provision of exercise and treatment modalities. Completes rotation objectives and all assigned duties described in the residency program requirements.
  • Provides safe, effective athletic training appropriate to the patient’s ability and injury based upon the relevant evidence base practices.
  • Prepares patients for practice and competition through the appropriate utilization of braces, bandages, wrapping and taping techniques to prevent injury. Provides emergency care within the athletic trainer scope of practice.
  • Meets curriculum expectations/competencies of residency program while adhering to the expectations of academic integrity, to ensure high quality patient care and safety. Must maintain required minimum passing score, in practical assessments, theoretical exams and coursework throughout program, to remain a resident.
  • Uses resources efficiently and effectively. Self-motivated to independently manage time effectively and prioritize daily tasks.
  • Promotes brand awareness while partnering within the community to increase service utilization.
  • Seeks opportunities to expand learning beyond baseline competencies with a focus on continual process improvements. Remains current on professional issues and clinical skills.
  • Assists in the organization and direction of specific activities of the department as delegated by the Athletic Training residency management team. Such activities may include research projects, department improvement projects, or other special tasks.
  • Presents relevant special topics in professional literature at clinic meetings, grand rounds, conferences, and meetings as delegated or requested by the faculty.
