Position Details Job Title: Athletic Training Intern Annual Compensation: $57,800 Program Dates : June 2026 - June 2027 Position Status: Full time, benefit eligible. Primary Location: Basalt and Aspen, CO (with travel to other clinic locations, and outreach events) Reports to: Director of Athletic Training Position Overview The Athletic Training Intern will work in a variety of settings , gaining valuable and versatile experience for their future career. They will support the supervising physician in the medical and surgical management of patients within an orthopedic physician practice setting , provide mentored medical care to athletes in high schools and perform rehab and treatments with a local youth ski/snowboard organization. The intern will collaborate closely with physicians, surgeons, and athletic trainers as part of a dynamic, interdisciplinary team. This role involves a wide range of responsibilities, including patient education, injury evaluation, treatment, and the management of sports medicine and orthopedic injuries and illnesses. The intern will also assist with marketing, administrative tasks, and community clinic duties. The intern’s time will be divided between clinical care, administrative support, and community care activities, with the exact distribution varying week to week. As an introductory role, the Athletic Training Intern will receive mentorship and supervision while developing clinical skills, patient care techniques, and professional knowledge. Although the role provides mentored autonomy, the intern is expected to perform with a high level of professionalism and demonstrate growth in their responsibilities over time.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree preferred, Professional Bachelor’s degree accepted
  • In good standing with the BOC required
  • Colorado DORA AT License required
  • Current Certification in AHA or ARC Basic Life Support for healthcare providers required
  • NPI number require
  • Strong organization and communication skills required.
  • Must maintain a professional attitude towards patients and an excellent and collegial working relationship in delivering patient care.
  • Pass a Background Check for working with a variety of organizations
  • Applicants must be eligible to work in the United States
  • All candidates must be certified athletic trainers at the start of the Internship.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of patient privacy rights.
  • Maintain personal commitment to the Steadman Clinic mission and values.
  • Attend staff meetings and other required meetings.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Contributes to a multidisciplinary team approach to patient care.
  • Prepare and organize daily clinic to ensure efficiency and maximize patient’s office visit and promote a positive clinical experience.
  • Obtains patient history, performs physical exams, educates patients, organizes notes and radiographs.
  • Assists physician and providers with patient care and in office procedures.
  • Assists in documentation of patient’s office visits and communications.
  • Assist and conduct clinical tasks associated with patient care and administrative duties.
  • Applies, adjusts, and removes orthopaedic cast/splints/DME and instructs patients in their use.
  • Provide athletic training coverage for outreach program as needed and scheduled by Director of Athletic Training.
  • May includes evenings, weekend, and holiday coverage.
  • Provide patient-centered care to athletes/participants according to all policies and procedures written in the athletic training handbook and organizers policies and procedures.
  • Provide emergency care and first aid.
  • Provide injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation to athletes.
  • Provide concussion management including; education, prevention program, evaluation, documentation, referrals, management, protocol updates, return to play progression and communication.
  • Timely documentation of all injuries, treatments, return to play progressions, referrals, rehabilitation, health records and communication per the organizations policies and procedures.
  • Collection and reporting of data used for research and annual reporting.
  • Effective and timely communication with athletes, healthcare professionals, organization administrators and patient’s families, ensuring compliance with HIPAA and FERPA regulations.
  • Managing supply and budget.
  • Organizing and assisting with pre-participation physicals.
  • Developing rehabilitation, return to play and strength and conditioning programs.
  • Manage participant/athlete referrals.
  • Teaching/presenting at community events and high school courses as assigned.
  • Developing, implementing, managing, and mentoring student athletic trainers and student aids.
  • Positively represent The Steadman Clinic at marketing events and symposiums.
