Job Summary Assists physicians in operating room procedures and communicates necessary information and instructions to patients for pre-operative and post-operative care. Participates in being a preceptor of the Athletic Training Residency at Prisma Health Orthopedics. Assists physicians in clinical care, including triage, casting , suture removal, vitals, communication with patients, diagnostic studies, surgeries, and all other additional treatments. Assists physicians in operating room procedures if appropriate credentialing and training completed and communicates necessary information and instructions to patients for pre-operative and post-operative care. Performs appropriate patient intake for a variety of medical and musculoskeletal conditions. Includes but not limited to thorough history of condition or injury, chief complaint, assessment of pain level, completion and/or review of past medical history, family history, social history, and medication reconciliation. Coordinates the development and implementation of athletic training residency mission, goals, objectives, and related curriculum and programming for the resident students while assigned to them working in conjunction with the program director. Assists physicians in clinical care, including triage, casting, suture removal, vitals, communications with patients, and referrals for physical therapy, diagnostic studies, surgeries, and all other additional treatments. Collaborates with physician to develop a specific musculoskeletal and/or concussion care plan for each patient that includes academic and physical recommendations based on clinical assessment. Prepares for and assists physician with minor surgical procedures, including preparation of patient treatment site. Performs, at direction of supervising physician, appropriate point of care testing and order appropriate diagnostic testing or follow-up care. Provides post-operative care and treatment, discusses proper follow-up care, performs evaluations, and provides patient education and discharge. Triages patient messages, phone calls and questions appropriately. Communicates back to referring provider on behalf of the physician. Manages referrals to specialists and diagnostics tests in a timely manner. Responds to problems/opportunities to improve patient care and customer service. Prepares injection or other office procedure specific to each physician preference. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Education - Master's degree in Athletic Training
  • Experience - One (1) year as a Certified Athletic Training
  • Completion of accredited Athletic Training Residency Program
  • South Carolina DHEC Athletic Training Certificate required for team members working in South Carolina.
  • CPR Certification
  • NBCOT
  • OTC (Orthopedic Technologist)
