Midland Health is seeking an experienced Athletic Trainer/Medical Assistant to work in our West Texas Orthopedics Clinic. SHIFT AND SCHEDULE Full Time; Monday - Friday; 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS This position is responsible for participating and assisting in the care of the patient, under the direct supervision of the Health Care Provider and in collaboration with the healthcare team. The position is responsible for taking the patient’s history, assisting with administering injections, examinations and procedures as trained. The position performs both administrative and clinical duties to support and represent the Providers and the Organization in a professional manner. This position is instrumental in helping patient’s feel at ease and often explain the Providers instructions as directed. Provide exceptional customer service to our patients in an environment that promotes their rights, dignity, freedom of choice and individuality. Recognize obstacles and notify patients of wait time. Collect patient information. Review medical histories, current allergies and medications. Obtain and record patient’s vital signs: temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure, weight and height. Report assessment findings to the practitioner and record appropriately in a timely manner. Assist patients to exam room and prepare patients for examination. Assist patient in wheelchairs to and from exam table, procedure table, and scales utilizing proper body mechanics and safety measures. Organize patient care activities based on assessment findings. Assist practitioner in identified patient procedures, treatments, and examinations. Assist the provider with preparing injections, cast application and removal, suture removal; prepare prescriptions, and durable medical equipment application as directed and authorized under state licensure. Plan, coordinate, and supervise all components of athletic training program for student athletes. Work under the advice and consent of team physician to carry out activities in the following areas: prevention, evaluation, emergency treatment, physical reconditioning, rehabilitation of injuries, and other physician referrals. May include outreach component of on-site athletic training coverage for area high schools. Nights, weekends and travel is expected. Athletic trainer provides prevention, assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal injuries. Performs assessments and evaluations of patients and guides patients through physical exams and post-op procedures. Casts, splints, and provides DME/brace fittings for appropriate injuries. Administers gait training and other therapeutic exercises to patients. Provides instruction on in-home exercise programs. The athletic trainer acts as a liaison between the patient and attending physician. Organizes physician notes and x-ray studies and presents final case reviews to attending physician. Potential Athletic Training room coverage throughout school sport season. Assist in Performance Training and Strength & Conditioning programs.
