About The Position

Serve as first-line responder, injury manager, and liaison for youth and collegiate athletes in a dynamic sports environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Athletic Training or Physiology.
  • Current Licensure as required by state in which services will be provided: OH: Athletic Trainer through Ohio Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, and Athletic Training Board WV: Athletic Trainer through West Virginia Board of Physical Therapists
  • Nationally Certified Athletic Trainer through the Board of Certification for the Athletic Trainer
  • Requires the ability to lift 50 pounds and stand for prolonged periods of time.
  • Valid NATABOC Certification
  • Proof of registration with the WV Board of Physical Therapy

Nice To Haves

  • Two (2) years of experience in Athletic Training.
  • Bachelors Degree or higher in Athletic Training.
  • Emergency Cardiac Care Certification.

Responsibilities

  • Provides on-site injury prevention, taping, bracing, and warm-up supervision before practices/games.
  • Responds to acute injuries and emergencies during practices and games.
  • Conducts injury evaluations, coordinates referrals, and communicates with parents, coaches, and physicians.
  • Manages concussion protocols, return-to-play progression, and hydration/heat illness monitoring.
  • Travels with teams as needed, often working afternoons, evenings, and weekends.
  • Conduct musculoskeletal assessments using clinical and functional testing.
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans.
  • Coordinate referrals to physicians, physical therapists, or specialists when necessary.
  • Administer therapeutic exercises and modalities to promote healing.
  • Track progress and adjust plans based on patient/athlete recovery status.
  • Educate on injury prevention and safe return-to-activity protocols.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate treatment records.
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA, state regulations, and organizational policies.
  • Communicate regularly with medical professionals, coaches, parents, and/or patients.
  • Serve as a resource for injury prevention and athletic health education.
  • Determine fitness for participation pre-season and post-injury.
  • Assist in the selection and fitting of protective equipment.
  • Maintain an effective and efficient athletic training room, equipment, and related implements.
  • Attend all varsity and junior varsity football games and other sporting events per contract.
  • Attend home freshman football games, as deemed appropriate.
  • Attend or be in the vicinity during all football practice sessions unless attending a game.
  • Provide athletic training services to all other sport teams, as deemed possible.
  • Attend to students' injuries during lunchtime so that students do not miss instructional time.
  • Determine when a student may resume sport activity unless the student is under a physician's care. In such cases, the physician must release the student to resume activity.
  • Work cooperatively with the athletic director and coaches in planning and implementing conditioning programs for student athletes.
  • Advise coaches on selection ad proper fitting of protective equipment.
  • Apply protective equipment and preventive taping as directed by a physician.
  • Report to the athletic director and/or head coach of any hazardous conditions in the athletic environment.
  • Advise coaches and athletes on general health concepts such as rest, nutrition, and fluid intake.
  • Provide appropriate first aid for athletic injuries.
  • Arrange for emergency transportation when necessary.
  • Refer athletes to their physicians when necessary.
  • Supervise the treatment and rehabilitation of athletes as directed by a physician.
  • Instruct and supervise student trainers, if available.
  • Maintain adequate records regarding physical referrals, patient progress, treatment, rehabilitation, and any other required state or county records.
  • Maintain medical supply inventory and requisition supplies. as needed.
  • Report the presence of any situation that may be harmful to the health and safety of the students and/or staff.
  • Fulfill annual continuing education requirements and attend other required training programs.
  • Maintain professional work habits.
  • Maintain and upgrade professional skills.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the principal.
