About Driscoll Children’s Hospital Since 1953, Driscoll Children’s Hospital has been dedicated to providing exceptional pediatric healthcare across South Texas. Our Sports Medicine team partners with local schools and athletes to ensure the safety, performance, and well-being of student athletes both on and off the field. Position Overview The Athletic Trainer will be school-based, located on school grounds, and will play a key role in providing rehabilitative care and injury prevention services under the direction of the Sports Medicine physician. This position also includes backup coverage in the clinic as needed. The Athletic Trainer will educate athletes, parents, and patients on injury prevention, rehabilitation, wellness, and health-related topics while ensuring safety and best practices in all aspects of care. This is a Driscoll position — you will not be responsible for non-athletic duties such as bus driving, substitute teaching, or out-of-town travel for games.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with athletes in multiple sports, required.
  • Current Athletic Trainer licensure in the State of Texas, required.
  • Board of Certification (BOC) for the Athletic Trainer (ATC credential), required.

Nice To Haves

  • Membership with National Athletic Trainer’s Association (NATA), preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide rehabilitative care and sideline assessments for injured athletes.
  • Manage concussion protocols, injuries during practices/games, and emergency situations.
  • Deliver patient education on injury prevention, rehabilitation programs, and wellness.
  • Support effective communication between athletes, parents, school staff, physicians, and Driscoll Sports Medicine team.
  • Assist with clinic coverage during summer months or when school sports programs are not active.
  • Complete accurate daily documentation, patient histories, and billing charges.
  • Follow HIPAA guidelines, infection control, and patient safety procedures.
  • Stock supplies and maintain readiness of treatment/exam areas.
