About The Position

In this role, the clinical athletic trainer works under the direct supervision and responsibility of a physician while reporting to the clinical manager. Clinical ATC will assist staff, providers, residents and medical students with patient care, clerical, and organizational tasks using a team-based approach in providing patient care. Responsible for coordinating appointment scheduling, diagnostic testing and medical record documentation and management. Provides information to patients so they may fully utilize and benefit from the care services. Conveys a positive image of USFTGP. Works closely with the Clinic Manager to ensure responsibilities defined below are fulfilled in a timely manner. Performs specialty procedures within the department under the supervision of the provider.

Requirements

  • Florida State Athletic Training License Required
  • Board of Certification for the Athletic Trainer (BOC) Required
  • Bachelor’s degree

Nice To Haves

  • master’s degree preferred
  • Athletic training experience in a physician setting preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform and document patient care tasks such as take vital signs, assist with physical examinations, provide BLS and AED, dressing changes and suture removal, and perform basic lab procedures/collect lab specimens in a professional and courteous manner to provide a positive patient experience and support the providers within the clinic.
  • Considers the patient experience and completes related tasks, including gathering needed patient information to help address patient concerns and supporting the provider in meeting quality metrics established for the clinic to ensure continuous clinic safety and quality patient care.
  • Act as a clinical healthcare team member for providers and deliver guidance for complex patients. Will follow emergency policies and protocols in providing basic life support. Elevate identified abnormalities to a provider, as needed.
  • Perform, document, and bill patient visits (including rehabilitation and education services) under the direction of the physician.
  • Provide patient education, including reviewing a plan of care if there is a protocol in place.
  • May complete triage messages, reviewing in basket messages and test results and routing to the provider for further review, care management and coordination, and pre and post procedure vitals and consent.
  • May review patient medical history documenting any adjustments or changes and notify provider with issues, as needed.
  • Maintains overall patient experience and safety, following all emergency clinical policies and protocols, to allow for optimal experience of care.
  • Perform clinic-based procedures as determined by the provider and under the supervision of the provider.
