About The Position

Reporting directly to the Associate AD for Sports Medicine, the Athletic Trainer integral member of our Sports Medicine Team, serving 17 intercollegiate athletic teams and almost 330 student-athletes. This position will coordinate at a high-level athletic injury prevention, evaluation, management and rehabilitation for assigned sports within Parkside Athletics. Employee is required to keep accurate records of all treatments of athletic injuries and organize the training room. Athletics Training Services (70%) Provide athletic training services for assigned sports programs. Responsible for daily practice and game athletic training coverage, team travel, coordinating all treatments and physician referrals for assigned sports. Provide day-to-day athletic training services for student-athletes around injury prevention, treatment, rehabilitation and reconditioning of athletic injuries. Responsible for maintaining accurate and comprehensive medical records on each student-athlete, including all insurance correspondence. Administrative Management ( 30%) Maintain National Athletic Trainer’s Association (NATA) certification, WI State Licensure and current CPR/AED certification. Maintain certifications by completing Communicate and work cooperatively with assigned sport coaches, support staff, and administrators regarding student-athlete welfare (i.e. injury reports and practice limitations). Responsible for complying with all NCAA and affiliate conference applicable rules, the NATA Sports Medicine Handbook and for implementing all required NCAA student-athlete safety and welfare policies and procedures related to concussion management, cardiovascular, musculoskeletal, mental health and other medical requirements. Comply with policies and rules of the NCAA, UW-Parkside, the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, and the UW System. Other duties as assigned by the Associate AD for Sports Medicine.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Athletic Training or a related field
  • 0–1-year experience in athletic training or a sport medicine related field
  • NATA BOC certification
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure in the State of Wisconsin
  • Weekend & night availability
  • Travel as needed

Responsibilities

  • Serves as an onsite health care provider for assigned teams during practices, competitions, recreational play, or special events to ensure adequate treatment of injuries/illness and appropriate response to emergency and non-emergency situations
  • Advises, develops, and implements plans for injury and illness prevention, emergencies, and environmental monitoring to ensure safety of participants during practices, recreational play, events, and competitions
  • Evaluates, provides treatment and rehabilitation, and documents injuries/illnesses in consultation with health care professionals and in accordance with established practices, guidelines, and protocols
  • Coordinates patient care, makes referrals to various medical resources, and provides information based on injury/illness evaluations in collaboration with medical professionals
