Windward School is looking for an Athletic Trainer to join the Athletic Medicine Team, which works to care for scholar- athletes and the Windward community throughout the School day and during the evenings. The Athletic Trainer serves as the first responder by preventing, recognizing and evaluating injuries, subsequently developing treatment and rehabilitation programs, incorporating the appropriate therapeutic modalities with rehabilitation exercises, and initiating emergency action care protocols. The Athletic Trainer must coordinate and act as liaison with physicians, students, athletes, coaching staff, parents, and other allied health professionals on the status of and treatment for injuries. Athletic Trainers also work to counsel students, athletes, and staff regarding proper conditioning, athletic training, and injury rehabilitation. Primary Responsibilities: Prevent, recognize, and assess athletic injuries Provide basic health care to students in case of injury or illness May provide access to over-the-counter medication for students in accordance with physician directions, applicable school policy, and legal guidelines, and ensuring required documentation Must be able to uphold standards of Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) standards for handling Blood Borne Pathogens Adhere to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) standards Develop and Implement preventive and rehabilitation programs to treat athletic injuries using the appropriate therapeutic modalities and treatments Counsel students and coaches on proactive steps to prevent sports-related injuries Inform coaches of proper medical procedures and policies Attend practices and athletic events to provide medical emergency and acute injury care coverage to student athletes which includes travel with sports teams to away games as needed throughout the fall, winter, spring and summer seasons Maintain a line of communication with community members Provide training seminars for coaches and PE teachers, athletes and students Game and practice preparation for home and away games (water, ice, bottles, towels) Maintain equipment and cleanliness of athletic medicine and rehabilitation facilities Maintain appropriate medical records of injuries, treatment plans, and progress Maintain an effective and efficient athletic medicine facility Duties/Tasks Provide first aid, injury assessment, treatment, rehabilitation, and reconditioning for students, athletes and faculty/staff within the scope of practice Promote safety and injury prevention, utilizing appropriate assistive devices and taping when necessary to protect athletes from injury Ability to fit preventive equipment such as braces, guards, mouth pieces and other similar equipment Operate Therapeutic devices such as Ultrasound, Electronic Stimulation, Thera-gun and other similar equipment Maintain accurate records of injuries, treatments and doctor’s notes (Magnus Health and SportsWare) Communicate in a timely manner with coaches, parents and athletic directors on an athlete’s eligibility File necessary reports for injuries or incidents with the Business Office Educate athletes, families, and coaches regarding injuries, risk factor modification, and exercise programs Prepare 911 forms for all grades (7th-12th grades) for travel off campus Prepare, distribute and collect medical kits for each Middle School and Upper School team (7th-12th grades) Work with Risk Management and Emergency Preparedness Team as a member of the First Aid TEAM Attend departmental meetings as required Troubleshoot issues as they arise Other duties as assigned.
