About The Position

Join our highly respected Sports Orthopaedic practice, where you’ll support a busy physician in the clinic and have the unique opportunity to assist in surgical procedures under direct supervision. This is an exceptional role for candidates eager to grow in both clinical and surgical environments. About the Role The Athletic Trainer will work directly with a Sports Orthopaedic Physician to support patient care, clinic operations, scheduling, education, and treatment coordination. In addition, this role includes participation in surgical assisting (with appropriate Colorado Surgical Assistant Registration), providing hands-on experience in both ambulatory surgery center and hospital settings. You will serve as an essential connection between patients, physicians, and staff—helping deliver high-quality, compassionate care.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Athletic Training or related field.
  • NATA Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) and registered with the State of Colorado.
  • BOC certification required.
  • Colorado Surgical Assistant Registration (or ability to obtain) for surgical responsibilities.
  • Current ACLS or BLS certification.
  • Strong communication skills, patient-first mindset, and ability to thrive in a fast-paced clinical and surgical environment.

Responsibilities

  • Schedule clinic visits, pre-op/post-op appointments, and surgical procedures.
  • Communicate with surgery centers/hospitals and submit required documentation.
  • Follow established surgery scheduling protocols and escalate urgent issues to the physician.
  • Greet, room, and prepare patients for exams.
  • Provide education, answer questions, and assist with mobility/dressing.
  • Handle phone calls, voicemails, and patient messages in a timely and professional manner.
  • Assist with patient histories, screenings, injections, casting/splinting, and other procedures.
  • Maintain exam rooms, equipment, and medical supplies.
  • Order X-rays per protocol and facilitate referrals and DME orders.
  • Participate in CSOG-related sports coverage events as directed.
  • Assist in surgical procedures within ASC and hospital settings.
  • Support pre-operative setup, patient positioning, and equipment preparation.
  • Participate in sterile field activities, including safe handling/passing of instruments (as permitted by facility credentialing).
  • Provide intraoperative support: retraction, suctioning, exposure, and maintaining visualization of the operative site.
  • Assist with dressing application, splinting, and immediate post-operative care and documentation.
  • Maintain HIPAA, infection control, and patient safety standards.
  • Support Meaningful Use/MIPS tasks.
  • Participate in team meetings, training, and quality improvement initiatives.
