The Athletic Trainer will provide direct care to athletes on the playing field or court during practice and game situations. This role involves performing evaluations and formulating treatment plans for injured athletes, coordinating schedules for coverage of all sports, and maintaining necessary clerical duties in the sports clinic, including managing charts and computer files. The position also includes conducting athletic enhancement programs.

  • Provide athletic trainer services.
  • Evaluate on-field injuries, record data, and formulate plans as outlined by ATC practice act.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of emergency care and critical injuries sustained during athletic events.
  • Administer and assist with treatments such as exercises, gait training, massage, whirlpool, hot packs, diathermy, ultrasound, electrical stimulation, ice packs, traction, wound care, bracing, taping, and splinting.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of diagnosis, precautions, and contraindications associated with patient care.
  • Coordinate with physical and/or occupational therapists and physicians on changes in care plans based on patient assessments.
  • Instruct patients and families in procedures or activities based on the plan of care per physician orders.
  • Determine appropriate discharge times from treatment in conjunction with physician assessments.
  • Determine readiness of athletes to return to play through functional testing.
  • Prepare written documentation required by the department.
  • Communicate observations and comments with interdisciplinary team members.
  • Coordinate client care and event coverage with fellow ATCs under the direction of a supervisor.
  • Provide care and maintenance of department equipment and supplies.
  • Maintain appointment books, logs, charge records, and schedules for daily operations of the sports clinic.
  • Maintain and distribute appropriate supplies including linens, bandages, and cleaning supplies.
  • Maintain cleanliness of department, treatment areas, and equipment.
  • Perform clerical duties such as writing patient charges and answering telephones.
  • Maintain open communication with coaches, principals, and parents about the progress of athletes under care.
  • Contact appropriate physicians to attain orders for injured athletes as directed by a supervisor.
  • Comply with department policies, procedures, objectives, safety, environmental, infection control, and quality assurance programs.
  • Participate in educational programs and in-service meetings.
  • Communicate effectively with all hospital personnel.
  • Coordinate testing of high school students participating in the sports medicine educational program.
  • Assist in the coordination and preparation of physical day activities.
  • Coordinate yearly meetings for coaches regarding physical day and program updates.
  • Coordinate yearly in-services for graduate assistants on emergency care and spinal cord injury packaging.
  • Provide ATC coverage for special events as decided by the supervisor.
  • Follow North Oaks Health System's Compliance Program and Federal and State Regulatory guidelines.
  • Graduate of an accredited athletic training program.
  • Sufficient experience as a staff ATC with some supervisory skills.
  • Experience in all contact sports.
  • State licensure required.
  • NATA certification required.
