About The Position

The Athletic Trainer position at WellSpan Medical Group in Hanover, PA, involves providing basic athletic training services for patients and athletes at designated settings. The role requires coverage of high school athletic events, assisting in medical office orthopedics, and participating in the WellFit program. The trainer will work full-time, with a schedule of Monday to Friday day/evening shifts and weekend rotations as needed by the district.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in health-related field.
  • 1 year of relevant experience.
  • Entry-level graduates with BOC certification will be considered.
  • Licensed Athletic Trainer upon hire.
  • Heartsaver CPR/AED certification upon hire.
  • Graduate of a CAATE program or athletic trainer internship program.

  • Ability to work with patients of various ages and diagnoses with sensitivity and skill.
  • Ability to apply athletic training practices and understand hospital, school, and organizational policies.

Responsibilities

  • Covers assigned pre-season physicals, sports games or matches and related events.
  • Supervises onsite treatments and programs of reconditioning for injured athletes under supervision.
  • Carries out prescribed treatments and recommendations made by the team physician.
  • Maintains relationships with referring physicians, businesses, schools, coaches, and other referral sources.
  • Utilizes appropriate clinical techniques to assess and treat athletic injuries.
  • Records athletic injuries and treatments and maintains records in accordance with guidelines.
  • Assists in implementation of pre-participation examinations for prospective athletes.
  • Assists physical therapists in the treatment of patients with sports or orthopedic conditions.
  • Maintains, orders, and organizes supplies necessary for treatment.
  • Participates in departmental performance/quality improvement programs.
  • Assists physicians in the care and treatment of patients with orthopedic needs.
  • Provides physician clinic support through obtaining patient histories and completing assessments.
  • Designs and instructs patient home exercise programs.
  • Fits and adjusts durable medical equipment.
  • Provides in-office post-operative patient care.
  • Assists with application of casts and splints.
  • Documents clinical care appropriately in EMR.
  • Schedules and performs assessments for WellFit members.
  • Provides land and aquatic program instruction to WellFit members.
  • Supervises gym/pool and responds to situations during wellness visits.
  • Trains new WellFit staff members on equipment use and exercise programming.
  • Participates in community awareness seminars and wellness programs.
