About The Position

Under the management of the Clinical Program Manager the Athletic Trainer will collaborate with the provider and care team to triage and care for the orthopedic patient. Tasks include rooming in of patients, patient education, preparing for patient injections, care of the pre and post-op patient including physical examinations under the supervision of the provider.

Requirements

  • Bachelors of Science degree in physical therapy or allied health sciences required.
  • Two years of experience as an athletic trainer.
  • Nationally certified athletic trainer (ATC), Connecticut state licensure, BLS required.

Nice To Haves

  • Casting and experience in outpatient orthopedics preferred.
  • Board Certified Athletic Trainer, casting/outpatient clinic experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Supports the orthopedic provider in clinic with rooming patients, updating the electronic medical records, home exercise teaching, pre and post-op care including MRSA swabs and suture and staple removal, preparing patients for injections and assisting in set up of sterile procedures and preparing medications.
  • Performs patient exams and specialized testing when appropriate.
  • Reviews and interprets diagnostic testing including X-RAYS, CT Scans, EMGs, MRIs and ultrasound under the supervision of the provider.
  • Educates and provides durable medical equipment or casting as ordered by the provider.
  • Follows up on patient phone calls and mychart messages in a timely manner.
  • Collaborates with the orthopedic team to provide safe and quality care.
  • Confirms HIPPA standards are maintained.
  • Coordinates follow-up care and referrals when appropriate.
  • Creates and supports a culture and environment of safety.
  • Role models service excellence CHAMP behaviors, identifies and takes action to resolve issues.
  • Participates in and/or facilitates safety and quality improvement efforts.
  • Promotes clinical trials and research activities.
  • Fosters academic and clinical investigation through participation in research projects in the specialty practice area and related fields of study.
  • Participates in literature review, data collection and data entry.
  • Participates in enhancing the professional development of the athletic trainer and other health care providers involved in the care of orthopedic patients.
