About The Position

The Athletic Trainer (ATC) is responsible for assisting Physicians and/or Mid-level Providers in the clinic setting and in other settings such as the hospital and within the DME department. Duties include: fitting and education of all Durable Medical Equipment (DME) as prescribed by the physician, the application and removal of casts, coordinates and advises on all aspects of the DME program including insurance and billing. Acts as a liaison between staff, physician, and DME supervisor and manager. Assists in general maintenance of equipment, supplies, and exam rooms.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Athletic Training or related field from an accredited university athletic training program required.
  • 3-5 years of demonstrated experience as an Athletic Trainer or related field preferred.
  • Current license issued by the Occupational Therapy/Physical Therapy/Athletic Training (OTPTAT) Board to practice Athletic Training in the State of Ohio required.
  • Certified by the Board of Certification (BOC), Inc. for Athletic Trainers preferred.
  • BLS required.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures that proper patient forms are complete, current, and entered into the computer.
  • Checks EMR for progress notes and stat orders, prepares charge tickets and acts on any stat orders.
  • Enter DME charges with appropriate modifiers based on insurance requirements.
  • Conduct accurate dispensing of DME in the inventory management system.
  • Obtain authorizations from insurance companies for patient durable medical equipment.
  • Check patients' insurance benefits and provide detailed explanation of coverage and benefits to the patients per DME guidelines.
  • Fit patients with prescribed orthosis, including patient evaluation, modification and fitting, training the patient on fit and function, and answering any DME questions.
  • Schedule DME appointments for patients and send referrals to the appropriate vendor based on insurance restrictions.
  • Provide back-up coverage and assist in daily office routine when needed in other areas.
  • Monitor and maintain office equipment; order office supplies, orthopaedic/medical equipment, and supplies.
  • Clean, sterilize, and stock/maintain examination rooms and equipment.
  • Maintain cleanliness of all clinical areas and exam rooms; restock and order supplies within budgetary constraints.
  • Assist physicians and/or physician's assistant with special procedures, gather necessary equipment of instruments, position patient and respond to instructions given by physician or mid-level provider.
  • Remove dressing and wraps; application and removal of casts and splints.
  • Provide patient education on physician's plan of care (hand-outs/return demonstration etc.).
  • Ensure charge tickets are marked appropriately for equipment and supplies given to patient.
  • Attend in-services and departmental meetings.
  • Perform all other duties not specifically assigned.
