About The Position

The Athletic Health Care Trainer position at the Hawaii State Department of Education involves developing and implementing standard operating procedures for the school's athletic health care program and training facility. Requirements

  • Current certification as an athletic trainer from the NATABOC.
  • Current certification in ECC from recognized organizations.
  • Registered with the Department of Commerce & Consumer Affairs as an Athletic Trainer in Hawaii.
  • Possess a valid driver's license in the State of Hawaii.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and implements standard operating procedures for the athletic health care program.
  • Conducts pre-participation evaluations to screen for injury/illness risk factors.
  • Works with coaches to develop training and conditioning programs for student athletes.
  • Advises on the selection and fitting of protective equipment.
  • Monitors athletic activities for safety hazards.
  • Advises to restrict or cancel activities if safety is threatened.
  • Applies protective or injury-preventive devices.
  • Conducts initial evaluations following acute injuries.
  • Provides first aid and emergency cardiac care.
  • Determines if injured athletes may resume participation.
  • Develops and supervises rehabilitation programs.
  • Designs and fits orthotic devices.
  • Supervises therapeutic devices and equipment.
  • Monitors athlete reintegration into activities.
  • Provides technical assistance regarding student health care.
  • Determines need for supplies and equipment.
  • May supervise assistants and student interns.
  • Organizes in-service educational programs for coaches.
  • Counsels on rehabilitation and treatment of injuries.
  • May conduct classes on athletic training topics.
  • Disseminates information to student athletes and parents.
