About The Position

The Athletic Director serves the mission, vision, values, and the community of Cristo Rey Jesuit by promoting the holistic development of the students through athletics in formative and recreational experiences that reflect the Catholic and Jesuit identity of Cristo Rey Jesuit. The Athletic Director is the administrator responsible for supervising, maintaining, organizing, and administering the overall athletics program and ensuring compliance with conference and school policies, rules, and regulations. The Athletic Director is responsible for scheduling and supporting all athletics competitions within our conference and at sports tournaments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Education
  • Minimum of 3+ years of successful teaching and coaching experience
  • Current first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and automated external defibrillator (AED) certificates
  • Computer proficiency in programs and digital platforms related to the role
  • Knowledge of federal, state policies governing athletics
  • Ability to manage budget and personnel
  • Strong interpersonal skills: active listening, teamwork, dependability, flexibility, ability to lead and inspire coaches, students, and parents
  • Strong executive functioning skills: highly organized, strong communication, time management skills, self-starter
  • Commitment to personal/professional integrity and moral character
  • Regularly interact with students, parents, staff and visitors.
  • Work at a desk and computer screen for extended periods of time.
  • Be able to occasionally lift up to 30 lbs.

Responsibilities

  • Promote the holistic development of students through formative athletic experiences that reflect the Catholic and Jesuit identity of Cristo Rey Jesuit.
  • Lead and support CRJ’s shared vision of high expectations for student learning and individual development through an athletics program that promotes good sportsmanship, teamwork, and personal growth.
  • Consistently and proactively communicate with parents, students, coaches, referees, league officials, faculty, and staff.
  • Coordinate athletic eligibility grade checks in collaboration with the Assistant Principals to monitor the academic progress and eligibility of all student-athletes and promote high standards for academic success.
  • Communicate eligibility status clearly and in a timely manner to coaches, parents, and students.
  • Ensure all required documentation is properly completed and signed by athletes and parents prior to participation.
  • Ensure all injury protocols, reporting procedures, and return-to-play guidelines are followed in accordance with school and league policies.
  • Assess, develop, and recommend athletic policies and procedures for inclusion in the Athletic Handbook, with approval from the Principal, to promote a healthy, safe, and mission-aligned athletic culture.
  • Implement and enforce management policies and expected student behavior related to athletics in accordance with the Student/Parent Handbook, Student Code of Conduct, and Athletic Handbook.
  • Refer students to counseling and support services as needed, in collaboration with school counselors and administration.
  • Collaborate with College Counselors on all matters related to athletic scholarships in a timely and organized manner.
  • Foster community among athletic teams and the broader school community, including coordinating team photos, senior nights, and collaboration with clubs, teams, administration, and the Parent/Guardian Association to increase attendance and engagement at athletic events.
  • Oversee, coordinate, attend, and/or supervise athletic events, contests, practices, athletic dinners, field day, and other athletic activities.
  • Recruit, interview, hire, onboard, train, and supervise qualified coaches and athletic personnel in alignment with school, league, and Cristo Rey Network policies and practices.
  • Train and support coaches on expectations for professional, timely, and appropriate communication, ensuring the use of school-approved communication channels.
  • Ensure full compliance with TCSAAL (Texas Charter School Academic & Athletic League) rules and regulations, and monitor and enforce compliance by coaches and student-athletes.
  • Serve as AfterSchool Administrator beginning at 4pm daily, and as the Game Day Administrator for athletic contests in accordance with TCSAAL and school guidelines.
  • Compile and prepare seasonal schedules and rosters for each sport.
  • Coordinate transportation, field and gym usage, and ensure coaches comply with all transportation and facilities policies and practices.
  • Schedule, confirm, and communicate game dates and times with opponents.
  • Coordinate and confirm officials, transportation, and game-day support (e.g., scorebook, clock operators).
  • Maintain accurate team and individual records; prepare and present seasonal athletic reports to the Principal.
  • Share athletic accomplishments and highlights with the Community Engagement team for public communication.
  • Foster a positive working relationship with Facilities and Operations; monitor athletic facilities and promptly report maintenance or safety concerns to the Director of Facilities & Operations.
  • Develop and administer the athletics budget in collaboration with school leadership, ensuring accurate financial records and adherence to Cristo Rey Jesuit finance guidelines related to purchases, reimbursements, fundraising, and timely payment of officials.
  • Train coaches on all financial and fundraising policies. All expenses must be pre-approved and processed in accordance with school procedures.
  • Maintain an updated inventory of athletic equipment, uniforms, and materials; establish and manage effective systems for distribution and collection of uniforms.
  • Collaborate with the Community Engagement team to ensure branding guidelines are followed.
  • Foster school-wide community and student engagement by supporting assemblies, offering open gym opportunities, and leading intramural activities such as basketball or volleyball tournaments during lunch or after school.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships and communication with parents, students, faculty, staff, administration, the communications department, board and executive committee members, media, officials, and athletic association leaders.
  • Attend workshops, conferences, and professional development opportunities related to athletics administration and leadership.
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of athletic facility expansion or renovation projects as needed.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to ongoing formation in catechetical and spiritual leadership development.
