About The Position

The Athletic Chaperone is responsible for monitoring student athletes to ensure a safe and orderly environment during athletic programs. This role involves maintaining high standards of conduct, safety, and communication while supporting students in their athletic endeavors.

Requirements

• Congenial disposition and ability to learn required skills for the assignment.
• Meets all mandated health requirements (e.g., a negative tuberculosis test).
• A record free of criminal violations that would prohibit public school employment.
• Consistently dependable and flexible.
• Willingness to accept new responsibilities and assignments.
• Ability to comply with prearranged schedules.

Responsibilities

• Complies with the requirements of the athletic calendar and program/service assignment.
• Provides advance notice when scheduling problems are anticipated.
• Checks with the assigned supervisor to verify duties.
• Receives instructions and carefully follows directions.
• Consults with the supervisor as needed to clarify expectations or address concerns.
• Maintains a high profile during events.
• Upholds safety rules and regulations.
• Actively patrols assigned areas to ensure safety.
• Responds to student requests for assistance.
• Avoids being intrusive while monitoring activities.
• Solves concerns discreetly and effectively.
• Documents all security incidents and/or student injuries.
• Ensures students have permission to be in designated areas during events.
• Keeps supervisors informed about emerging issues.
• Upholds board policies and follows administrative guidelines/procedures.
• Refers district policy/procedure questions to administrators/supervisors.
• Advances the district's professional image through conduct and communication.
• Uses problem-solving techniques to address questions and concerns tactfully.
• Facilitates community participation in activities that enhance student learning.
• Promotes the proper use, care, and security of school property.
• Respects personal privacy and maintains confidentiality of privileged information.
• Avoids public criticism of training/coaching methods used by others.
• Does not demean or ridicule athletes' mistakes or performance.
• Provides support, guidance, and accountability to help students benefit from program participation.
• Promotes academic success as a priority for all students.
• Emphasizes fair play and respect for rules, officials, and opponents.
• Upholds the athletic conduct code and maintains high expectations for behavior and performance.
• Reports discipline problems, vandalism, graffiti, equipment malfunctions, and other concerns.
• Takes precautions to ensure safety and watches for conduct that may indicate a problem.
• Works with supervisors to manage or eliminate risk factors.
• Reports suspected child abuse and/or neglect to civil authorities as required by law.
• Monitors activities and recommends program improvements.
• Participates in staff meetings.
