About The Position

The Athletic Academic Advisor will provide individualized, tailored, and holistic academic support services for assigned student-athletes: designated to them by the Director of Athletic Academic Performance. This position is responsible for ensuring that all assigned student-athletes exceed academic eligibility standards, satisfy NCAA DI progress towards degree requirements (PTD), and ultimately graduate with their desired degree, all while maintaining strict adherence to all NCAA, Conference, and institutional rules and regulations.

Requirements

  • 4 Year / Bachelors Degree from an accredited institution.
  • Ability to navigate high-pressure and fast-paced situations/ environments with ease.
  • Work effectively and efficiently with diverse populations of student-athletes, faculty, staff, coaches, and administrators.
  • Exceptional communication (written & oral) and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of NCAA DI bylaws, especially those related to initial and continuing eligibility (PTD).

Nice To Haves

  • Master's Degree.
  • 2-3 years of experience working directly with student-athletes in an advisory capacity.

Responsibilities

  • Hold tailored academic advising meetings with student-athletes: discuss chosen degree progression, NCAA DI PTD requirements, academic performance, and course selection/ registration.
  • Monitor academic progress of student-athletes: pull weekly grade reports, assign & monitor study hall hours, request progress reports from faculty, and set up personalized course tutoring sessions specific to individual needs. Communicate all information clearly and consistently to all relevant coaching staff and administrators, with strict adherence to FERPA regulations.
  • Perform and document periodic NCAA DI eligibility checks for assigned student-athletes: monitor progress throughout semester and work with Athletic Eligibility Specialist (Registrar) and Faculty Athletics Representative (FAR) to finalize report after final grades are posted each term. Share document with and communicate any concerns to Compliance staff and appropriate administrators, strict adherence to FERPA regulations.
  • Evaluate initial/continuing academic eligibility of incoming student-athletes: Perform transcript evaluations for incoming high-school student-athletes; 2-4, 4-2-4, and 4-4 transfer student-athletes per NCAA DI requirements. Document and communicate evaluation information to all appropriate staff with strict adherence to FERPA regulations.
  • Take part in recruiting visits with coordination of coaching staff: Meet with prospective student-athletes and their families to discuss academic support services offered and highlight our Department's & SUU's commitment to academic success.
  • Other duties as assigned.
