About The Position

ASW Instructor (STSTC-2026-24616): Bowhead seeks a transitioned Navy Master Training Specialist (NEC 9502) with knowledge and operational ASW experience on legacy Navy (CG/DDG/FFG) platforms to support Surface Combat Systems Training Command (SCSTC) Mayport, Florida. Job duties to include but are not limited to: Developing; organizing; and conducting DDG/FFG ASW Operator training at the Surface Combat Systems Training Command (SCSTC) Mayport, Florida. Must be capable of conducting conventional knowledge-based classroom teaching and performance/scenario based laboratory and shipboard training. Must be prepared to support individual and watch team ASW training utilizing shore-based trainer requiring dynamic training and assessment of watch standers during stand-alone and integrated scenarios. Primary instruction in CG/DDG ASW mission areas and systems as well as LCS 1 individual and Crew Certification Training. Prepares; reviews; and customizes curriculum lesson plans and instructor guide in support of traditional classroom teaching. Supports Formal Course Reviews and Curriculum Updates; conducts training gap analysis provides formal feedback and recommendations for Course improvement. Based on seniority; will be responsible for the preparations of subordinate instructor’s annual performance appraisals for leadership. Develops; tests; maintains; and delivers moderately complex Navy Combat Systems training programs and related materials in support of SCSTC training objectives. Establishes and reviews course content and objectives. Conducts training sessions and develops criteria for evaluating the effectiveness of training activities. Maintains records of training activities; participant progress; and program effectiveness. Maintains current knowledge of relevant technologies as assigned. Observes and assesses contemporaries during Practice and Certification Teaches per requirements in NAVEDTRA 135. Candidate will be required to support a second shift work schedule on a rotational basis. Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical certifications, training, or work/military experience.
  • Seven (7) years of experience with the required system as either a maintenance technician supervisor or operator supervisor with responsibility for teaching the applicable system or function task to others in a journeyman level training environment.
  • Of the seven (7) years, one (1) year of experience as an instructor/trainer/evaluator in a Navy Training Environment, to include curriculum maintenance, writing learning objectives, preparing test items, evaluating instructional materials and the results of instruction and counseling students on academic learning problems.
  • Must currently hold a security clearance at the Secret level.
  • US Citizenship is a requirement for Secret clearance at this location.

Nice To Haves

  • Highly desired experience with ship-based and/or aircraft-based ASW associated detection systems. Experience as ASW Evaluator, Acoustic Sensor Operator, and/or Target Motion Analysis is a significant plus.
  • Experience as trainer/instructor in support of SCSTC/ATRC/FASW/TACTRAGRU is a significant plus.
  • Must be able to support training with extended periods on your feet while instructing.
  • Travel may be required up to 10 % of time.

  • NOTE: Cybersecurity Workforce Certification – Intermediate Level – will be required to be certified. Baseline certifications include qualifying bachelor’s degree, CISSP, CSSLP, CompTIA CASP+, CompTIACTT+, GIAC GSLC, or NEC 805A Instructor. 10% of the Tier II Instructors will require certification in base year and option 1 – 20% of the Tier II Instructors will require certification in option 2 and 30% of the Tier II Instructors will require certification in option 3 & 4
