About the position

The Astronomy Instructor position at Arapahoe Community College is a part-time role responsible for teaching courses in the Astronomy Program. Instructors will deliver instruction at both the Littleton Campus and the Sturm Collaboration Campus at Castle Rock, engaging with students through various teaching methods including face-to-face, hybrid, and online formats. The role emphasizes a commitment to student success and diversity, requiring instructors to provide a supportive learning environment while maintaining accurate records and assessments.

Responsibilities

  • Provide classroom instruction for assigned courses, ensuring to meet all class periods and start and end classes on time.
  • Prepare and distribute a complete syllabus to students before the first day of class, detailing course objectives, assignments, and grading policies.
  • Maintain accurate attendance records and provide timely data on student attendance.
  • Utilize technology effectively to facilitate learning, including the College's learning management system, Desire2Learn (D2L).
  • Maintain updated grading records in D2L and submit final grades by the due date.
  • Provide consistent and timely feedback to students regarding their progress and grades on assignments.
  • Plan class content and assessment methods that address diverse learning styles and relate to course objectives.
  • Communicate effectively with students, providing timely feedback and checking email accounts regularly.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in a related field or a Master's degree plus 18 graduate credit hours in Astronomy, Astrophysics, Planetary Sciences, or related subfield.
  • Experience teaching or training in subjects related to Environmental Science.
  • Demonstrated commitment to working with diverse populations, including historically marginalized communities.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written forms.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Experience in facilitating equitable outcomes for students using effective inclusive strategies.
  • Demonstrated ability to build successful professional relationships and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Participation in professional organizations, committees, or taskforces.
