About The Position

The Michigan State University Department of Geography, Environment, and Spatial Sciences has openings for up to 5 full-time Fixed-Term Assistant Instructor/Instructor, Assistant/Associate/Full Professor to teach up to eight courses per year. We are searching for candidates with expertise or experience in teaching physical geography, geospatial tools and technologies, and/or human geography. Candidates must have a demonstrated record of teaching excellence and/or significant work experience related to the teaching assignment. Candidates must have the ability to teach at the undergraduate level and create in-person and online content for geography courses. For the physical geography coursework, work will consist of a) teaching an introductory physical geography lab course, b) revising its contents – including both physical and geospatial/GIS assignments, c) engaging with students to answer questions and troubleshoot technical issues, d) working constructively with diverse student populations, e) assisting physical geography faculty in their courses, including grading, content proofing and development. For the geospatial coursework, work will consist of a) teaching online or in-person courses on introductory and intermediate topics in cartography and GIS, and b) teaching introductory topics in remote sensing. For the human geography coursework, work will consist of teaching online or in-person courses on subjects such as the regional geography of the U.S., introduction to human geography, or the interaction of people and the environment. Requirements

  • This position requires a Bachelor's degree for the ranks of Assistant Instructor-Fixed Term, or a Master’s degree for Instructor-Fixed Term, or a PhD for the ranks of Assistant, Associate or Full Professors-Fixed Term, from an accredited university in Geography or related field.
  • Candidates must have a demonstrated record of teaching excellence and/or significant work experience related to the teaching assignment (for example, content proofing and development, answering student questions, troubleshooting technical issues, grading, calculating final grades, and working with a diverse student population).
  • Candidates must have the ability to teach at the undergraduate level and create in-person and online content for geography courses.

Nice To Haves
