About The Position

Supervisor – not for Profit Wegner CPAs is seeking a Supervisor, Not for Profit to work in our Madison, WI office. The Supervisor, Not for Profit plays a key role in reviewing workpapers and financial statements, mentoring and training audit staff, and assisting with engagement planning and budgeting. This position requires strong technical expertise, leadership skills, and the ability to guide teams while maintaining high-quality client service.

Requirements

  • Qualified applicants will have a Master's Degree in Accounting, Data Analytics, Business Analytics or related field.
  • The individual must also have a minimum of three years of experience with external non-profit audits.
  • As part of the three years (Master's) of experience required, the individual must have: At least three years of experience working with small to medium sized non-profits.
  • At least three years of experience in external audits, financial statement preparation and engagement management.
  • At least three years of experience with GAAP, GAAS and compliance standards.
  • At least three years of experience in audit planning, budgeting and client relationship management.
  • At least one year of experience leading teams, providing technical guidance and managing multiple engagements simultaneously.
  • The company will also accept individuals with a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Data Analytics, Business Analytics or related field.
  • The individual must also have a minimum of five years of experience with external non-profit audits.
  • As part of the five years (Bachelor's) of experience required, the individual must have: At least three years of experience working with small to medium sized non-profits.
  • At least three years of experience in external audits, financial statement preparation and engagement management.
  • At least three years of experience with GAAP, GAAS and compliance standards.
  • At least three years of experience in audit planning, budgeting and client relationship management.
  • At least one year of experience leading teams, providing technical guidance and managing multiple engagements simultaneously.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and directly supervise Staff and Senior Accountants, providing training and performance feedback.
  • Manage workload distribution among team members and ensure engagements stay on track.
  • Conduct detailed technical reviews of audit workpapers and financial statements, ensuring compliance with GAAP and firm standards.
  • Develop and implement training sessions to enhance the technical skills of team members.
  • Serve as the primary relationship manager for multiple clients.
  • Lead client meetings, including exit conferences and Board presentations.
  • Expand firm visibility by attending networking events and cultivating relationships with clients and referral sources.
  • Assist with responding to Request for Proposals (RFPs) and participating in new client business development.
  • Plan and manage complex audit engagements, ensuring efficiency and adherence to timelines.
  • Set audit budgets and monitor actual costs against projections.
  • Ensure teams obtain sufficient, competent audit evidence while maintaining engagement profitability.
  • Act as a technical resource for complex audit issues, including financial statement preparation and compliance audits.
  • Develop a specialized area of expertise within the firm and provide guidance on industry best practices.
  • Ensure audits align with AICPA, GAAP, and regulatory standards.
  • Participate in internal and external training programs to stay up to date with industry changes.
  • Contribute to firm strategy discussions and process improvements.
  • Collaborate with leadership on staffing, retention, and training initiatives.
  • Participate in firm-wide initiatives.
