Summary: MGO is expanding, and we are seeking an experienced, motivated, and dedicated Assurance Senior Associate with specialized experience in State and Local Government (SLG) audits and engagements. In this role, you will develop advanced technical auditing skills while working on some of the largest and most complex government entities in the nation, including major states, counties, cities, airports, railways, ports, and the largest statewide federal compliance audit in the country. As an Assurance Senior Associate, you will lead engagement planning, budgeting, execution, and client communication, while ensuring exceptional service delivery and supporting the development of engagement team members.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in public or corporate accounting; SLG experience strongly preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, or equivalent degree with required accounting coursework.
  • CPA license preferred; must be sitting or eligible to sit for the CPA exam.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities with professionalism and ease.
  • Strict adherence to confidentiality standards.
  • Excellent interpersonal and client service skills.
  • Prior experience in State and Local Government audits preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, manage, and hold team members accountable (LMA).
  • Support growth strategies (research calls, pipeline management, COPs, etc.).
  • Manage all aspects of the engagement, including project oversight, billing, and quality control.
  • Maintain strong client relationships through timely communication and meeting deadlines.
  • Develop and mentor team members, preparing senior staff for advancement.
  • Demonstrate technical proficiency and the ability to plan, budget, and manage full audit or client engagements in accordance with MGO policies and procedures.
  • Exhibit strong project management skills to deliver work efficiently and on schedule.
  • Supervise and mentor junior associates, including providing timely feedback and conducting performance evaluations.
  • Independently resolve technical and client service issues while identifying opportunities for expanded service offerings.
  • Monitor engagement economics, manage hours and billings, and contribute ideas for efficiency improvements.
  • Prepare billing worksheets and coordinate with clients to ensure satisfaction and retention.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally—verbally, in writing, and in presentations—with colleagues, leadership, and clients.
  • Actively participate in professional organizations.
  • Support firmwide management and administrative initiatives as needed.
