About The Position

The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire is seeking a full-time, professional academic staff member for the position of Assistant Sports Information Director, starting August 1, 2025. This role, officially titled Communications Specialist, is a renewable assignment contingent on performance and funding. The salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Knowledge of sports is essential.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented setting.
  • Knowledge and ability to handle PrestoStats, NCAA Genius LiveStats and Gymnastics Virtius for in-game stats.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Commitment to athletic excellence within an academic environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree may be considered an asset.
  • One to two years of experience in athletics communication is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in all daily operations of the Sports Information office.
  • Handle primary contact responsibilities for multiple sports.
  • Provide media and campus promotion groups with information (pictures, film clips, biographies, updated statistics, game schedules, etc.) on all assigned sports.
  • Provide or oversee game day coverage for all assigned athletic teams (media preparations, announcing, official scoring, game rosters and programs, and reporting scores to media).
  • Enhance the department's branding initiatives through social media, graphic design, and video work.
  • Nominate and publicize student-athletes for various awards, honors, and special recognitions.
  • Train and supervise student workers and game-day staff.
  • Handle PrestoStats, NCAA Genius LiveStats and Gymnastics Virtius for in-game stats, and maintain statistical information for teams.
  • Create content with Adobe Creative Cloud software (i.e. Photoshop, InDesign, Premiere).
  • Provide extensive night and weekend hours of coverage as needed.
  • Assume other duties as agreed upon by the Sports Information Director and Athletics Director.
  • Coordinate media credential requests.
  • Arrange interviews with coaches, student-athletes, or other staff members.
  • Help promote home events and fundraisers.
  • Develop and implement creative media/public relations strategies.
  • Coordinate all publicity and communications for a complex and diversified 25-sport module.
  • Develop, maintain, and enhance a strategically utilized website.
  • Coordinate all aspects of media coverage for home events, utilizing modern technology to accommodate media productions.
  • Produce video content for website and coordinate live video streaming.
  • Produce editorial content for fundraising flyers, brochures, print advertising, radio promos, and other campus publications that promote intercollegiate athletics and related activities.
