About The Position

The Assistant Nurse Manager is a registered professional nurse who provides an associate management role for a unit/department. This position provides direct nursing care as well as unit leadership. In the absence of the Nurse Manager, is operationally responsible for the unit/department and for the quality of care delivered 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Demonstrate respect, dignity, kindness and empathy in each encounter with all patients, families, visitors and other employees regardless of cultural background.

Requirements

  • Graduate of accredited school of Nursing.
  • Licensed to practice nursing in the State where work is performed.
  • Two years of experience in clinical area of responsibility required.
  • Ability to direct self & others, aware of nursing standards, evidence-based practice, policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrates clinical proficiency relevant to the area of responsibility, rapid decision making and critical thinking skills.

Nice To Haves

  • ANM’s accepted into role without BSN must complete BSN within two years or by 12/31/2020.
  • Experience relevant to the specific clinical area(s).

Responsibilities

  • Operationally responsible for the unit/department and for the quality-of-care 24/7 in the absence of the Nurse Manager.
  • Assist the Nurse Manager in directing/evaluating clinical nursing activities within the scope of the department’s patient care delivery system.
  • Supervise, coach, empower, motivate, and discipline associates.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of 'Magnet standards' and integrate this model into unit culture.
  • Facilitate staff knowledge of Magnet principles and staff roles into shared governance.
  • Serve as mentor/coach to associates by providing direct nursing care and managerial activities.
  • Advocate for patients and families by utilizing the nursing process in care, counsel, and health teaching.
  • Support Nurse Manager in maintaining budget and adjusting staffing to meet patient demand.
  • Monitor patient experience scores and develop action plans for improvement.
  • Ensure patient experience best practices are maintained.
  • Establish and maintain ongoing performance improvement to impact patient outcomes.
  • Monitor compliance to core measure requirements and develop unit-based action plans.
  • Demonstrate management and leadership skills by directing clinical nursing activities.
  • Maintain licensure/certification and complete all mandatory training and education.
  • Participate in community activities and professional organizations.
  • Monitor associate satisfaction and resolve potential issues.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of evidence-based nursing practice and professional standards of care.
  • Supervise, teach, mentor, and delegate to staff in nursing care activities.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to plan and deliver care.
