About the position

The Assistant Grocery Manager exemplifies and ensures strong customer service in all areas of the job, providing a superior quality product that exceeds customer expectations. This role requires a working knowledge of department functions and the maintenance of adequate fresh inventory. The Assistant Grocery Manager is primarily responsible for assisting with keeping and maintaining a fresh inventory, processing administrative paperwork, and maintaining accurate department records.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains an atmosphere of enthusiastic customer awareness with an emphasis on providing fast and friendly Customer Service.
  • Assists customers by making product suggestions.
  • Engages in suggestive selling and other sales techniques via telephone, in-store intercom announcements, and one-on-one customer interaction.
  • Answers and responds to incoming calls appropriately and resolves customer complaints.
  • Responsible for total store operations in the absence of the Store Director.
  • Assists with planning daily operations and monitoring production processes.
  • Builds Grocery displays, rotates and discards outdated or spoiled product.
  • Implements effective promotional and seasonal displays.
  • Ensures that merchandise is correctly priced and displayed.
  • Monitors employee productivity and may schedule employees.
  • Trains employees in store policies, sales, and record-keeping procedures.
  • Prepares sales and inventory reports and conducts physical inventory every 6 months.
  • Controls inventory to ensure adequate product quantity, quality, and freshness.
  • Assists with ordering Grocery products and maintaining inventory levels.
  • Performs receiving duties including breaking down loads and verifying orders.
  • Ensures compliance with workplace safety rules and regulations.
  • Operates computer software and electronic ordering devices.

Requirements

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to frequently reach, lift, and maneuver objects up to approximately 50 lbs.
  • Manual dexterity and good eye-hand coordination.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • Knowledge of basic mathematics and weights and measures.
  • Knowledge of product variety, standards, perishability, product handling, sanitation, labeling, and department policies.

  • Experience in a grocery or retail environment.
