About The Position

The per diem registered professional nurse possesses knowledge of theory and practice in order to diagnose and treat the human responses to actual or potential physical and emotional health problems, The seven domains of professional nursing practice are rendered in accordance with the nursing process which includes the assessment of patients, identification of problems and strengths, the planning and enactment of interventions and the evaluation and documentation of methods and outcomes of the nursing care provided, This process includes the involvement of the patient's significant others and is in collaboration with physicians and those of other disciplines, Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients on his or her assigned unit,

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing, currently licensed to practice professional nursing in the State of New Jersey or a graduate of an accredited school with eligibility for licensure
  • Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital employs Graduate Nurses in all clinical areas except in the Operating Room Service, Renal Dialysis, Employee Health, Ambulatory Care Service, Cardiodynamics, Home Car, and Special Procedures
  • These areas require 1-2 years of prior clinical practice
  • Areas that treat children outside of the children's center include Perinatal, Renal Dialysis, Special Procedures, Home Care, Ambulatory Care Services, the Emergency Department and the Operating Room Services
  • These areas require prior experience with children and adolescents or training during orientation
  • NRP required upon hire for experienced RN s and required within six months of hire for New to Specialty,New Graduate RN s
  • S,T,A,B,L,E required within one year of hire

Nice To Haves

  • 2 yrs NICU experience preferred
  • BSN Preferred, required within 5 yrs of hire
  • National Certification preferred

Responsibilities

  • Creates a climate for heating by planning and providing for the provision of information and comfort measures to patients and families
  • Assist patients and families to understand alternatives and facilitate communication of information to all members of the health care team
  • Serves as a teacher-coach by providing information and/or interpretation of the patient's condition and rationale for procedures
  • Identifies patient readiness to learn, following predetermined instructional plans and documents outcomes
  • Teaches patients and families, following standardized instructional plans and documents outcomes
  • Plans for and documents discharge needs
  • Performs effectively in life threatening emergencies by identifying situations that require immediate intervention and seeking assistance from the appropriate resource promptly
  • Implements prescribed or delegated emergency measures safely, rapidly and accurately
  • Accurately detects and documents significant changes in a patient's physiological, psychological, cultural, and spiritual condition by utilizing the nursing process to achieve expected outcomes with regard to the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit, i,e,
  • infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric
  • Demonstrates the ability to identify and document patient s initial condition and the need for nursing care based on detailed assessment data reflective of each patient's status
  • Demonstrates the ability to anticipate, interpret, and diagnose changes in a patient's condition, plan the appropriate interventions to achieve the expected outcome and document accordingly
  • Collaborates effectively with physical interventions
  • Documents according to the nursing process and the RWJUH Standards of Care
  • Consistently performs, demonstrates and documents technical skills appropriately when providing care specific to the nursing service
  • Administering medications accurately and safely
  • Ensuring the delivery of safe and quality patient care by facilitating appropriate responses from other health team members participating in quality monitoring activities
  • Obtains new physician prescriptions to more appropriately reflect patient care regimens
  • Collaborates with resource regarding problems with response from other health team members
  • Attends unit-based performance improvement analysis meetings, identifying important aspects of care, and contributing to the maintenance and/or improvement of care
  • Organizes shift assignment and contributes to a therapeutic work environment
  • Follows established policies and procedures
  • Organizes shift assignment by safely meeting patient care needs and with reasonable assistance
  • Supports staffing patterns for a nursing service by consistently following scheduling policies and procedures
  • Contributes to a therapeutic work environment by following:

  • Ensures that appropriate standards of practice follow corporate compliance guidelines, and that results of accreditation surveys and licensure reviews by NJSDOH and JCAHO are satisfactory
