About The Position

The Assistant Director of Financial Aid oversees the loan team within Temple University’s Student Financial Services Office. The position plays an important role in overseeing and managing federal, state, and private loan programs, along with other types of financial aid. Responsibilities include guiding the loan process from start to finish—such as awarding loans, completing originations, resolving errors, supporting disbursements, and handling monthly reconciliations. Working with systems like Banner, EdConnect, Elm Select, COD, and other related tools. The Assistant Director is a trusted expert in financial aid regulations and institutional funding. The Assistant Director requires strong knowledge of federal and state requirements to answer questions, solve complex issues, and ensure loans are processed accurately and efficiently for students and families. Performs other duties as assigned. This position is eligible to be assigned a hybrid work arrangement (on-campus and remote), approval and the duration of this hybrid work arrangement is at the discretion of Temple University and the Department. This position requires a background check and Child Abuse Certifications prior to the commencement of service.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and two (2) years of experience in financial aid processing that includes student services.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Strong working knowledge of financial aid systems, including Banner/Ellucian, COD, NSLDS, and related federal aid platforms
  • Solid understanding of federal financial aid regulations, institutional policies, and best practices for counseling and processing aid
  • Ability to clearly and accurately advise students and parents on financial aid options, funding impact, and student account processes
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to listen thoughtfully and work effectively with a diverse population of students, families, and campus partners
  • Proven analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and multi-tasking skills, with the ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated leadership and supervisory skills, including the ability to serve as a role model through professionalism, reliability, and commitment
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office and related tools
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive student and family information
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, building effective working relationships across all levels of the organization
  • Flexibility to work outside regular business hours, including occasional evenings and weekends during peak enrollment and recruitment events
  • Willingness to participate in cross-functional student service and enrollment initiatives

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in a financial aid office or in an Enrollment Management setting.
  • Experience with Ellucian Banner Financial Aid module, Ellucian CampusLogic, COD, NSLDS, ELM resource, FAA Access and AES/PHEAA systems.
  • Experience analyzing and resolving loan issues between the Common Origination and Disbursement (COD) U.S. Department of Education system and the Banner Financial Aid Loan module.
  • Experience processing private student loan funding in ELM resource while interpreting various loan lender policies to ensure all financial aid regulations are met.
  • Experience supervising staff.
