About The Position

Reporting to the Head Coach, the Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach helps develop a Division I competitive Men’s Basketball program. The main role of the Assistant Coach is to teach student-athletes basketball. The Assistant Coach will focus on developing fundamental skills, instructing during Monday through Friday practices and meetings, and preparing for competitions. The Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach supports the Head Coach by providing leadership and integrity to the program outlined by the Head Coach, which includes, but is not limited to: creating, planning, organizing, motivating, communicating, and managing aspects related to recruiting, practices, competitions, student-athletes, and booster clubs. The Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach is expected to conduct themselves professionally, representing the University, the Department, and the sport both on and off the field. They must be knowledgeable about and follow NCAA regulations as well as conference policies governing recruiting, eligibility, ethical standards, playing seasons, and extra benefits. Proof of their knowledge will be demonstrated by successfully passing the NCAA Coaches Exam annually. The Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach also performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and at least two years of previous Basketball experience as a collegiate coach and/or collegiate student-athlete.
  • Experience administering Division I NCAA rules.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in MS Office Software including Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
  • Ability to assist with budgeting, scheduling, meal planning, coaching, recruiting, scouting, and purchasing and caring for equipment.
  • Ability to implement policies and guidelines for all Men’s Basketball personnel and student-athletes.
  • Demonstrated excellence in written and verbal communication and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated problem solving, strong leadership, and team-building skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle and prioritize diverse tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be able to work a highly variable schedule including nights and weekends.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and good driving record
  • Required Background Checks & Clearances: Child Abuse Certifications, DMV Background Check

Nice To Haves

  • NCAA Division I experience.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and allocating a budget.
  • Demonstrated experience fundraising towards the achievement of program goals.
