About The Position

This open competitive advertisement is for a Select Exempt Service (SES) position located in the North Florida Region in the Office of Inspector General, Bureau of State Investigations Criminal Division. The mission of the Office of the Inspector General at the Florida Department of Corrections is to protect and to promote public integrity and accountability within the Department through investigations, audits, and inspections. We aim to detect and prevent fraud, waste, abuse, and misconduct, ensuring that the Department operates efficiently and effectively while upholding the highest standards of ethical conduct. This position is not a telework position and is required to report to the FDC office in the area it serves.

Requirements

  • Meet the minimum qualifications and standards as set forth in section 943.13, Florida Statute and possess an active Florida Law Enforcement Officer Certificate from CJSTC.
  • Four (4) year degree from an accredited college or university; ten (10) years of full-time supervisory experience conducting criminal investigations or investigations or inspector general investigations; and have at least three (3) years of full-time supervisory experience in an Office of Inspector General, law enforcement agency or similar public investigative agency.
  • An advanced degree in law, accounting, public investigative agency administration or other relevant field, may substitute for one (1) year of the required supervisory experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Preference will be given to candidates in possession of the following certifications: Association of Inspector General as a Certified Inspector General, Certified Inspector General Investigator, Certified Financial Crimes Investigator, or other similar certification, or be a licensed attorney.
  • The selection for this position will be made based on the integrity, leadership capability, and experience in law management analysis, program evaluation, public administration, investigation, criminal justice administration, and/or another closely related field.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures that all investigations conducted are consistent with State Statues, “Principles and Standards for Offices of Inspector General”, OIG Directives and FDC Policies and Procedures.
  • Review investigations, assign disposition to cases or recommend them for further review by the Chief of State Investigations, Deputy Inspector General, Inspector General or Chief Inspector General.
  • out within the Region are initiated and managed consistent with a Strategy and Regional Strategy.
  • Ensures that investigative plans and strategies are complete and are being followed, and that changes are approved and monitored.
  • Ensures investigative resources are properly allocated and that investigations and/or special projects are progressing consistently with management expectations and resources allocated.
  • Supervises and/ or performs all duties and responsibilities of an Inspector Supervisor, i.e.., conducting searches and interviewing. Interrogating suspects or subjects.
