About The Position

The Assistant Aviation Operations Officer/Pilot plays a crucial role in the Florida State Guard, responsible for overseeing flight operations, mission coordination, and ensuring compliance with aviation standards. This position involves managing flight schedules, providing technical assistance during aircraft operations, and ensuring that all pilots meet training and proficiency requirements. The role also includes advising on policies related to flight operations and assisting in the development of training programs.

Requirements

  • Federal Aviation Administration certifications awarded from accredited civilian aviation programs or aviation certifications from accredited military aviation schools: Commercial Pilot Multi-Engine Airplane Multi-Engine Helicopter.
  • Ability to obtain an FAA ATP in category(ies) of aircraft to be flown within one year of employment.
  • Current or ability to maintain a FAA Class II medical certificate.
  • At least two years of experience in instructing others in a specific airframe/military aircraft.
  • In excess of 2500 hours of total flight time: At least 1500 hours of multi-engine rotary-winged or 1500 hours of multi-engine fixed-winged required.
  • In excess of 250 hours NVG any airframe.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with civilian aviation programs or military service aviation programs (active duty or reserve components).
  • Experience with piloting and pilot skills in one or more of the following main-frame/military aircraft: Fixed-wing, rotary, or remotely piloted aircraft (RPA).
  • Experience with mission tasking, intelligence reporting, and applying weather information.
  • Experience with supervising and/or filing flight plans and conducting crew briefings.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the overall flight schedule, mission coordination, and management of flight records and other documentation as required.
  • Plan and assist the Operations Officer to direct department in the use of aircraft.
  • Provide advice and counsel to the Operations Officer regarding aircraft operations.
  • Recommend and assist in developing policies and guidelines in all phases of flight operations for State-owned and contracted aircraft.
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and oversight of flight standards and training programs.
  • Ensure that all pilots who fly department aircraft comply with minimum training and proficiency requirements.
  • Provide technical assistance to aircraft accident investigation teams and may recommend policy changes as a result.
  • Assist in the acquisition of aircraft.
  • Monitor, evaluate, and make recommendations for improving aircraft equipment, safety equipment, and the air program relative to flight operations.
  • Act as relief and primary pilot of State-owned and contracted aircraft in the performance of all FSG aviation missions as needed.
