This position provides custodial services during afternoon and evening hours in assigned areas for Cornell Cooperative Extension of Chenango County. Custodial staff vacuum, wet mop, sweep, dust, polish, clean blinds, empty/clean all waste receptacles, remove trash and recyclable materials, clean restrooms/restock them with sufficient paper products, and maintain floors daily. They additionally mow the grounds, weed eat, pull weeds, maintain assigned lawn equipment and hand tools, and ensure the garage and storage rooms are orderly and neat. Custodial staff periodically wash walls, windows, and sills, sweep/shovel snow from stairways/walkways to the building, paint rooms, and perform simple carpentry to keep the building in shape. Custodial staff also aid staff in relocating furniture, and Case Building custodial services during the Chenango County Fair. They are responsible for complying with all OSHA/PESH safety regulations in the performance of their duties. High School Diploma or Equivalent Education. Six (6) months volunteer or work-related experience. Valid NYS Driver’s License. Ability to clearly communicate and to read and write in English. Basic Computer Skills including use of e-mail and computer-based time collection. Physical ability to do heavy lifting (able to lift and carry 50 pounds), to shovel snow, carry supplies and equipment. Ability to climb and perform work from a ladder. Demonstrated ability to provide cleaning, maintenance, and repair work. Knowledge of cleaning, maintenance, and repair methods, materials, and techniques applicable to public buildings. Ability to work independently and to complete work within a reasonable time frame. Ability to identify and address safety concerns in the workplace. Ability to work effectively with co-workers. Ability to communicate with supervisor and staff as pertains to the duties of the job. Ability and willingness to work with diverse audiences and maintain cultural sensitivity. Ability to follow oral and written instructions and assume responsibility with general guidelines and direction. Ability to drive Association vehicles to be fueled or maintained. Ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position. Ability to meet acceptable federal background check standards. Ability to work flexible hours which may include evenings and/or weekends, as appropriate. This is a part-time (20 hrs./week), benefits eligible, non-exempt position with an hourly rate of $16.00/hr. The Association Custodian will work on-site at the CCE Chenango office in Norwich, NY. This position does not support remote work.
