About The Position

The Associate Vice President of Student Affairs (AVP) provides leadership and oversight for the strategic development, implementation, and management of student services operations at SFCC. The AVP supervises multiple student affairs departments and collaborates closely with administrators, faculty, and staff to advance student success, retention and completion. This is a Fixed-Term, at-will position to temporarily replace a full-time employee assigned to an ERP implementation project. A term appointee has no guarantee of continued employment.

Requirements

  • Comprehensive knowledge of student affairs administration, enrollment management, and student support services in higher education.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local regulations impacting student services, records and compliance.
  • Executive leadership and strategic planning skills to advance student success and retention.
  • Ability to develop, implement, and evaluate policies, procedures, and operational plans.
  • Strong supervisory skills including mentoring and evaluating professional staff across multiple functional areas.
  • Experience with budget development, fiscal oversight, and resource allocation.
  • Ability to analyze student success, enrollment, and retention data to inform institutional decision-making.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for collaboration with diverse internal and external stakeholders.
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive, student-centered environment that supports diverse populations.
  • Ability to manage complex initiatives, ensure compliance, and achieve measurable outcomes.
  • Ability to exercise professional judgment, to handle matters with diplomacy and tact, and to maintain confidentiality.
  • Proficiency with student information systems and the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Master’s degree in an academic or related professional field.
  • Ten (10) years of job-related experience to include five years of supervisory experience.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates effectively with administrators, faculty and staff to develop, implement and assess policies and procedures related to enrollment management, student activities, counseling services, and student personnel programs.
  • Cultivates a supportive learning environment for SFCC students and student services departments, identifying faculty and departmental needs, analyzing data, and focusing on improving student success, retention, and graduation.
  • Provides leadership and direction for the planning, operations, and personnel development of assigned student services units, including Financial Aid, Registrar, Counseling, Welcome and Advising Center, First-Year Experience, Student Accessibility Services, Student Development, Testing and Veterans Center.
  • Supervises, mentors and evaluates direct reports while guiding them on the department’s shared vision; delegates tasks and responsibilities to ensure department goals are met; interviews candidates for vacant positions; trains new staff in the department; provides constructive and timely performance evaluations; handles discipline and termination of employees in accordance with college policy.
  • Assists in the formulation of the SFCC overall budget, coordinating the preparation, submission, and allocation for all student services budgets.
  • Ensures institutional compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations making accurate adjustments to policies and procedures to adhere to changes.
  • Conducts research and analysis to inform enrollment management strategies and recommend modifications aligned with SFCC’s strategic goals.
  • Collaborates with stakeholders on the design and analysis of data tracking and collection methods and systems to support decision making.
  • Represents SFCC through effective leadership and participation on committees, task forces and boards.
  • Performs other duties assigned by the Vice-President of Academic and Student Affairs.
