The Role Reporting directly to the Chief Strategy & Corporate Development Officer, the Associate Vice President (AVP) of Enterprise Business Development is a core member of the Strategy & Corporate Development Leadership Team. This individual serves as a key partner to the Group level Business Development Leads, partnering on the overall health of Agilent’s M&A pipeline, Long Rang Plan (LRP) execution, enterprise strategy delivery, and deal advancement. The AVP Enterprise Business Development is responsible for the overall M&A pipeline health of the enterprise, will manage regular M&A pipeline meetings with Agilent’s CEO, and partner with Agilent’s most senior leaders to make tradeoff decisions on strategic M&A opportunities across the enterprise. They will also set standard work for M&A investment thesis development and pipeline management across the enterprise. The AVP Enterprise Business Development utilizes a combination of strong business acumen, strategic thinking, in-depth domain knowledge, and established industry contacts to advance inorganic growth strategies, working closely with group-level strategy teams. This individual will serve as a key architect of the company’s external growth engine. The AVP Enterprise Business Development is responsible for identifying, cultivating, and evaluating cross-group and adjacent M&A opportunities In addition, the AVP Enterprise Business Development contributes to the formulation of Agilent's long-range enterprise strategy, partnering with the Enterprise Strategy team to determine landscape of various strategic segments.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated strategic ability and experience in creating and executing multi-year strategic plans at the company, group, or business unit level.
  • Expertise in forming inorganic growth strategies that support business goals, including the identification, cultivation, and strategic rationale development for M&A targets.
  • Experience in conducting adjacency analyses in collaboration with stakeholders to explore non-core inorganic opportunities.
  • Proven capacity to engage, influence, and earn the trust of senior executives and peers at the executive level.
  • Relevant understanding of platforms, technologies/science, and market dynamics pertinent to the business.
  • Ability to identify, negotiate, and close business development and strategic collaboration opportunities, such as partnerships, licensing, and acquisitions, in close collaboration with Agilent partners.
  • MBA or technical degree relevant to life sciences.
  • 10+ years of experience in M&A business development, corporate development, business consulting, or related roles, including increasing management responsibilities.
  • Proven track record of results driven by interpersonal and relationship-building skills, particularly in leading multicultural and geographically dispersed teams within a fast-paced, matrixed environment.

Responsibilities

  • Enterprise M&A Funnel Coordination: The AVP is responsible for managing the enterprise wide M&A funnel, ensuring robustness of the pipeline, enterprise wide adherence to standard work, and managing monthly M&A pipeline review meetings with Agilent’s CEO
  • Target Cultivation of Cross Group and Adjacent Deals: Partner with SCD Enterprise Strategy team to determine the company landscape of various priority strategic segments - maintaining a "living" pipeline of cross-group and adjacent targets that align with Agilent’s ever evolving enterprise strategy. Facilitates the active engagement and cultivation of these high-priority M&A targets.
  • Investment Thesis Development on Cross Group and Adjacent Deals: Partners with Agilent senior leadership and Group BD to design investment theses and define the main strategic assumptions for cross Group and adjacent M&A targets, leading strategic diligence efforts for these opportunities.
  • Cross-Functional Alignment: Acts as a key M&A leader advising and aligning Group Business Development leaders, General Managers, Group Presidents, and SCD staff on inorganic opportunities.
